Why does it feel like it's a race between Kiffin or Leach

With possible darkhorses of Pittman or Campbell.
Seems there's a lot of smoke around these names now, with the top twoost discussed being Kiff and the Pirate
If the reports are true, that HY wants someone with P5 experience, that eliminates most of the Clark, Fritz, etc. And even Norvell (who seems to be fading).
Gut just says that Lane and Leach want the job the most.
In say in saying all of that... Well probably end up with Gundy or Les Miles.

Because that is the current cycle.
Just like the basketball search. Everyone thought it was Musselman at one point than totally moved on to others before coming back to Musselman. This thing will go in cycles.

If its these 2 then it's not even a contest. Kiff by a mile.

Yep. It’s going to be a looooong month as we work through this.

By tomorrow, it will all change and Norvell will be back on top again

If Leach is the worst case scenario, then we'll be ok. All of them are major improvements over Bert and Chaggy.

The thing is, Leach WILL stabilize the program. Don't know if he'll ever win 11 games, but he can lay the foundation again and bring back respectibility and attention to Arkansas.
Kiffin can do that, too, but there's just far more potential for Kiff to flame out than Leach.... But, he may also have a slightly higher ceiling because of his recruiting ability and the staff he could put together.

Because you're reading clueless message boards.
No one is going to have any idea until at least December, if not January.

Fun fact...Lane Kiffin and the FAU Owls beat the Ty Storey led WKU Hilltoppers the week before Ty got Morris fired.

Agree

I would say it is significantly higher.
So the question is are we swinging for the fence or just looking to make contact.

Irwin seems to think someone who is passionate about the job can convince Hunter... That's how Musselman was hired so quickly, because he so wanted the job and talked about how much potential was there.
Thats why I think Kiffin, Leach and maybe even Pittman actually have a chance. Because they all want the job and love what Arkansas can be.
As for recruiting, Leach last year had the 59th recruiting class at Wazzu, that was last in the pac 12 I think.
Kiff had the 61st ranked class at fricking FAU. Granted, it's maybe the best backyard VS one of the worst, but one school is in C-USA and one is in the Pac 12.. And nearly won the league last year.
Btw, 61 ranks 1st for Kiffin's conference. For reference, Norvell had around the 65th class last year at Memphis.
Billy Napier, another ex Saban coach who is now ULL, had the #1 class in the sun belt last year.
Wanna know how Saban wins, he doesn't hire anyone who can't recruit.
Just think of that as opposed to Bert's mindset...its crazy.

This thread provoked some thoughts that make me wonder how many would agree with.
I don't like or want Kiffin, so I was just thinking, "you know, he probably only wants this job because being successful here, after so many coaches more or less bit the dust here, would make him a hot commodity."
Then I got to thinking, that probably doesn't apply to Kiffin exclusively. Think about it. Can we consider the Arkansas job a destination job for anyone other than maybe Lunney? I think Leach may be the most likely other possibility, due to age. Anyone else?

Most would likely jump if they had a serious offer at an even better school. Would probably take a big offer in terms of Leach though since he is much older than most of the other serious candidates and has shown he is fine with not hopping around.
I use to think this mattered but it isn't that important if you really think about it. If one of the coaches that we hire leaves in 4-7 years to go to a better program, that means we are in a very good position for the next hire.

At this point if Kiff can come in and make himself a hot commidity that puts in a really good place.
We'd be in good shape for the next coach and a much better job than we are now.

Any of the blue blood programs can always snatch a coach. We saw USC grab Kiffin from Tennessee, and Tennessee was like a decade removed from a National Championship at that point. Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame - they can all price match you and will carry more prestige and easier recruiting benefits. These jobs and the NFL are always a possibility.
But we can theoretically pay as much as most any place if we really wanted to keep someone. I do feel like coaching salaries are in a bubble that's going to pop eventually, but I really think Arkansas can probably go up to five million a year for someone whose selling out the stadium and bringing a lot of wins.

If we're in fallback option territory, we could do a lot worse than Napier.
He's a baller recruiter with ties all over the Deep South, knows the SEC and coached at a high level at Alabama (2 separate stints), and is currently winning and recruiting at a high level at ULL.

Rhule Campbell leach should be the top 3 options followed by Bill Clark and lame Kiffin. I’d make everyone of them say no before I pursued anyone else

True, and true. I guess I’m a little old school with all that. It’s pretty much never that way anymore.

We need The Pirate, if for no other reason than putting the flagship out to sail again!
