When has retaining a lame-duck coach worked in recent CFB?

Seems like it worked gloriously for Florida AND SCar with Muschamp and Nebraska with Scott Frost.

Anybody else got any examples??

2006 Arkansas.

But bad coaching and favoritism ended up making it less of a season than it could have been.

Not exactly sure this team will have NFL talent scattered across the offense and defense like that squad did.

They are busy making excuses of why Arkansas is so inferior and they can't do any better.

Nope. Pittman has no leverage in his staff decisions at this point. HY will force someone on him out of the limited pool of people that are willing to jump into dumpster fire.

No high end high school recruits are coming here. Will have to portal some leftovers to fill gaps.

But hey we will save some money on the buyout while the brand continues to plummet.

All this does is delay what’s going to happen anyway. SMH.

Some random dude on 247 keeps saying the university president made HY keep Sam because he didn't like the 'optics' of firing him.

I have zero clue of that is remotely true, but if it is, then we are more doomed than previously thought.

In saying that, if the BOT really wants a coach fired, they can go into executive session and make it so.

I've seen a bit elsewhere BOT/Chancellor told HY no when he wanted to fire him.

Maybe they (BOT/Chancellor) are taking the hit for HY's decision to give Sam the contract extension when he had no market elsewhere.

It gives HY a get out of jail free card by removing any potential accountability of his decision.

We have all witnessed and experienced a number of insane admin decisions over the past 25 years.

It will likely go down as the worst and come Friday afternoon a huge embarrassment for the University.

Hell, EVERY coach is hired to be fired. Especially in the SEC. (Except Saban,I guess.)

He will be fired next season unless he wins 8 or more games but looking at the schedule, that ain't happening.

If he makes a bowl game it will be sold as improvement and his contract will be extended.

Low median incomes and what not.

He will struggle just getting good players from the portal. They don't want to go to another school where the coach gets fired, new coach comes in and tells them to hit the road.

The opposition will use Sam's questionable job security against Arkansas.

It's already been out out there it's the fans fault for speculation because his job status and performance are beyond reproach.

We'll frick around and play like world beaters against Oklahoma State and eek out a win, in a "Gundy special" game where they lose one inexplicably

Then the hype train will get rolling again and everyone will think "man we're so much better, Enos really must've ruined everything last year! We're back!"

Then we'll turn around and lose to UAB at home in an uninspired and unmotivated blowout

This is the way of Arkansas football under Sam

Maybe 4-8 is just a solid season now and 6 wins is parade worthy. Are we just embracing our role as the Vandy of the west?

With divisions going away next year it’s going to optically look a lot worse to finish 15th in the standings versus 7th.
