Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian are great examples of this. I’d need to see success in a non-head coaching role like they had before seriously giving consideration to it.

Sark has still never outperformed his on-paper talent during a season.

Lane, however, seemed to become much better coach after his time with Kendall Briles and infusing his offense with the Baylor offense.

Sounds like Briles at Arkansas not at TCU

Botch hasn't had success since he wasn't able to follow Kelly after cinci, he's a falling forward guy which we had already in bert.

It's seams the second chance guy isn't considered at Arkansas without being labeled a retread, while we have a guy like that on staff being considered for Michigan state.

I don't have a guy in mind, just odd these guys are never brought up when Texas and Ole Miss have hired one. Failed up and comer, backt to coordinator, second chance and seemed to learn from their past mistakes.

Is there a guy out there that fits this mold? Seems like a realistic coaching candidate.

SI had an article yesterday saying the only three realistic candidates would be traylor and the wazzu and oregon st guys since they are about to be G5.

Not a coordinator. More like Napier a couple years ago, prime, Fuentes, etc

I’d go for Lebby.

Lets go defensive and bring back Barry Odom as HC. 4-1 at UNLV and just got a big donation to the football program today.

If it’s defense, I’d go Elko.

.. I'd take any one of those guys right now over Pittman. They are all three far better HCs, especially Smith.

Traylor however seems to be the best fit b/c of his regional background and familiarity with the program.

Like actual SI or Arkansas blog SI? I can’t imagine there’s any way that a national writer said the head coaches at Wazzu or Oregon State would leave for Arkansas.

I was high on Traylor last year but a 1-3 start this year isn’t very encouraging. Also if fans aren’t happy with Pittman then the Oregon State coach would have been run out of town after his first four years:

2–10
5–7
2–5
7–6

Washington State coach looks decent but I’d like to see him sustain it without Cam Ward. Feel like a lot of programs overlooked Ward transferring from FCS but he was dominant there.

Washington State is a much harder place to win at than your typical SEC program.

Lack of history and fan support.

That's true, be similar to Vandy.

But Leach also left it in a really good spot which helps a ton.

how so? There’s an obvious upward trajectory.

Not quickly enough for an SEC fanbase IMO

Maybe after 2-7 but that was the year Pittman only won 3 games himself since it was an all conference schedule. He’s definitely not fired after 7-6

It was on SI's website SI Article

I wasn't really interested in the content as much as the tone of the article, probably regurgitating discussion from other forums on the Internet since this seems to be reporting nowadays.

Not really, and I’m not a fan of that guy, but you can’t go from pure air raid to any other system quick or easy, which is going to cost Arnett his job.
