Pittman has already received over 500 texts from fellow coaches

wanting to come work for/with him.
Did I just hear that correctly? If that's the truth then he should be able to have his pick of many good options, and it shows how he's viewed in the coaching world.
We showed with Chavis ( ) that we're willing to pay top assistant salaries, hopefully we take full advantage of the money saved on the hire and really go big.
Odom as DC would be great, but I'd be underwhelmed by the Colorado OC if there is truly that much interest in working with Pittman out there.

Unfortunately, our PTB still haven't learned and are going the cheap route on the assistants pool of $5M. I'm really trying to be open minded on the Pittman hire, but if they aren't willing to open the checkbook for assistants to a guy with no head coaching experience, then we are still fricked. I'm really trying not to be the "sky is falling" guy, but this shite is beyond ridiculous.

I would think of the “assistants pool” as an initial budget. If Pitt goes to HY and is like “I can get a top 10 OC for $1.5 and a top 10 DC for $1.5, but that doesn’t leave me enough for the rest of the staff,” they’d find the money.

I’m sure we’d go higher but you don’t want to say you’ll spend whatever it takes to hire someone because they think they can ask for the moon in salary negotiations.

He did say "around 5M" if I remember right so yeah that would make sense.

Yeah, no smart AD leads off with "we will give him $20 million dollars for assistants"
Imagine how the negotiation goes after he's said that in public

Pittman said he's happy with the assistants pool to hire with. He said they have what they need to get who they need. I'm good with it if he is.

I'm curious who he was referring to when he basically said "you wouldn't believe some of the coaches that have reached out to me wanting to come coach at Arkansas. If Arkansas can recruit top coaches like these then we should be able to recruit top athletes."
Sure sounds like there's potentially some studs and big names in there. I hope it's not another Chad Morris "best DC in the country" embellishment.

I could argue that the lack of offense made our defense way worse than the talent we had.
A lot of the Clemson fans told us when we hired Morris that we would need a lot of depth on the d-line because of the speed of the offense.
And there's truth to that, we either scored quick or went 3 and out because we threw downfield on 1st down a lot!

Of course he's going to say that. He's telling HY what he wants to hear.

Point taken.
Wait and see mode on the staff obviously. Everything hinges on it. He emphasised more than once that he intends to take his time on filling out his staff. If he's really received 500 coaching related texts, I feel he has a pretty good shot at making some really good hires.

He did mention wanting to bring assistants who are still playing, so that means any teams playing bowl games.
I do know he is wanting to bring UGA DL Coach, Tray Scott, who is originally from Crossett.
Whether Scott comes along is a different story.

Didn't he also say some of the names reaching out to him are still coaching? That is very interesting...

Mizzou OL Coach, Brad Davis, to be new Arkansas OL Coach. He was Pittman's GA on the OL at North Carolina

Meh. Better than being a GA at Clemson 3 years ago. Not sure the OL coach is as big as others will be given it will be Pittman’s baby.

Wasn't the Lane pitch supposed to be $10 mil for assistants?
Wouldn't Pittman, a guy with no previous experience as t HC, need as much or more than kiffin?

Coached Florida's O-line in 2017 and Mizzou the last two years. Nice to see we're finally building an offensive staff with SEC experience as opposed to guys who were GAs 3 years ago.

This is indeed true, we don't know the accuracy of anything we heard. Anything.
Where is this $5 mil number coming from now even? I don't even trust that.
