Can all the Mike lovers please confess that you know nothing about basketball and that you'll quit making fools of yourselves?

I shall forgive the penitent

Not sure that is needed but don’t act like Mike doesn’t deserve some criticism or critiques. Hell he has been here seven years with no noteworthy accomplishments and two NCAAT victories- Wofford and Seton Hall. SEC schools are investing in better coaches and Mike blew our chance in the early years when the SEC was full of terrible teams and coaches.

This roster construction will be interesting because if Gafford goes, we don’t have a foundational piece returning next year but rather a bunch of role players, who will be asked to make tremendous strides. 3 (4) sophomores and 7 freshmen - not sure about that roster balance or management.

CJ - Adrio - Juniors
Harris[R] - Hall - Gabe - (Daniel) - Sophomores
Garland[R] - Sills - Embery - Joe - Phillips - Chaney - Henderson - Freshmen

If Daniel leaves as many expect, I’ve heard they (coaching staff) want hold that scholarship to use 2019 - maybe it goes to Hill or someone else.

Why would anybody be upset? Mike just locked up his third participation trophy in seven years after all.

I would be ok with the juniors and Harris leaving. I know Mike won’t do that, but something needs to happen to be able to bring in some more help in the ‘19 class.

It's one game and our best players played like shite. Some of you guys are too reactionary. Makes me wonder how you make it through the day.

One game my arse. 2 tourney wins in 7 years. That's a hell of a lot more than one disappointing game. What planet do you even live on, bro? People bitching after 7 years of mediocrity and you're bitching we're too "reactionary".

To quote another poster on here “but we haven’t lost a first round game in 15 years!”

7 years.

Not an argument. He took over for the worst coach in Arkansas history and the entire program was in shambles when he got here.

Nick saban went 6-6 year 1 then 12-2 year 2 after arguably the worst stretch in Alabama football history and football is alot harder to overhaul talent wise than basketball. I know I'm comparing Alabama football to Arkansas basketball but either were a blue blood or we're not. So what's the narrative stone?

It's not really the loss that bothers me. First round losses can happen to any program.

The issue is that I can't in good faith think "well, there's always next year". We're likely not going to be very good next year. Or the next year. I don't think Gafford has any intention of returning and we lose by far our two best scorers.

So when is reasonable to expect a sweet 16 for Mike?

His complete roster mis management is setting us up for a total rebuild all over again.

With a brunch of scrub, mid level recruits.

You're a sadist.

How do you explain Missouri this year?

I'll buy this argument in football since there's 85 scholarship players, but not basketball. When you have 13 scholarship players, there's no reason a good coach can't rebuild an entire program within 3-4 years.

They can and he did, but he was unable to keep it going after Portis left and without a fantastic crop of in-state recruits, we'll be mediocre at best for the foreseeable future

You're saying 7 years isn't enough time to turn around a dumpster fire basketball program? We we 18-13 pelphrey's last year. That's not a dumpster fire. TTU was 8-23 in 2011-12. That's a dumpster fire. And they're looking better than we do in less time, with 3 different coaches, while we've stayed the course with suitcase Mike.

How many guys are on a basketball roster? 10ish? It takes 7 years to build a team of 7-10 respectable players? Jesus.

So how many years is it going to take Mike to get us rolling? 10? 15? Do we need to give him another 10 years from now just so he has enough time?

That's true.

I hope Mike pulls off the coaching job of his life and gets the Hogs to the tourney next year, but I don't see it.
