The portal is good for short term depth problems. It should be used only in small doses and so that freshmen aren't playing when they shouldn't. But eventually better recruiting has to be a bigger priority as you will not find elite players from the portal. It is a temporary fix and nothing more.

Arkansas needs to redshirt as many players as possible each year. Arkansas has never done it since joining the SEC and never had a coach that prioritized it.

Arkansas will have a lot of juniors and seniors next year on the defensive line. Marshall and Ridgeway filled the gaps and caused double teams. This allowed the linebackers a lot of space to make plays. It is easier to find a plugger in the portal than it is to find ends with elite talent. It is good to have solid linebackers but they are of no use if they are getting pushed back 15 yards.

So what would y’all say we need to fill the most? DL, OT, and LB?

Arkansas will be returning a lot of experience on both lines as they were able rotate quite a bit this year.

The biggest need is LB. Both Morgan and Henry were super seniors but Pool is most likely coming back. Andrew Parker will fill in for Morgan. The rest lack experience and this is what is left for next year.

Zach Zimos R-Jr.
Marco Avant So.
Kelin Burrle R-So.
J.T Towers R-So.
Chris Paul Jr. So.

I think we need as much exposure as we can get for Pittman. I think there isn’t a more genuine man coaching in college football, and there wouldn’t be a parent in America that wouldn’t feel good about putting their kid in his hands, if they knew him.

I have to think the exposure and plaudits that Pittman got this season for how he does things will help lure guys to The Hill via the portal.

Lied to and dicked over at your previous school? Come here where you're treated fairly, honestly and with respect.

Use Pittman's own words in his first meeting with the team after he took the job -- "we're gonna communicate with you, we're gonna talk to you, we're gonna love you."

Getting Pool to come back for a super senior year would be pivotal. Having to replace the entirety of our linebacking corps in one year would be extremely difficult. Parker had some spot duty, but no one else has seen the field.

Jackson Woodward might compete to start at LB and you left him off your list.

It can be done. It will require money, strategy, money, organized booster assistance, money and apparently a fleet of Dodge Chargers.

Better go with some Dodge Challengers to be safe.

Time for Frank Fletcher to step up and do something besides talk about fried rice and whatever Rocket horse he has this year.

The ones that are listed are on scholarship. I don't include the walkons as they rarely start.

I'm actually hopeful that the portal gives us an opportunity we haven't had before with the removal of the sit-out year.

Look at what it's doing to college basketball and how it bolstered us last year. My bet is that we'll see a similar effect on football as coaches learn the best way to use it. This may be an overreaction, but I could see it being almost as important as high school recruiting for Arkansas.

Sometimes it's not a talent issue but a system or coaching issue. If we're able to continue to showcase transfers on our team, we're more likely to land high-profile ones.

Hopefully after the year burks and those linebackers had we can lure a few from the portal who want to play for Odom and briles. It’s looking more and more like we may keep both for At least one more year

People keep talking about doing what it takes to retain Briles and Odom (rightfully so), but two guys we absolutely need to keep are Jamil Walker and Ed Ellis.

I've been outspoken on this since the Petrino era, but the S&C coach is the most important member of a football coach's staff. I said as much in an MSB thread on important factors for a successful program:

LINK

Your S&C program can be the difference between winning a game late or blowing a lead, 8-4 or 5-7, and nowhere is it more important than in the SEC.

I've been outspoken about this because Bielema and Herbert's S&C program was a key reason for our number of blown leads and late game meltdowns. Our players could squat houses and bench cars, but we had no speed, conditioning, or physical endurance.

Make no mistake, there were a multitude of reasons why we won 8 games just two years after hitting rock bottom in college, but Walker, Ellis and their staff are due a ton of credit for that turnaround.

Jackson Woodard R-So. He saw action in 10 games this year. He saw more time than the other linebackers on scholarship.

He must have been an invited walkon like John David White.
