When Houston Nutt ran off one of the brightest offensive minds in college football and was the most hated man in the state. Since then that offensive mind went on to coach in the SEC and win a shite load of games. Why don’t we want him again? Because he didn’t want to come to a cess pool 2 years ago? Because his wife is crazy? Is that it?

1. We had a competitive advantage with Gus the first time around. We no longer have that. Teams have adjusted to his scheme. We need to find the next Gus.

2. Gus needs a special athlete for his offense to really excel. He was able to get away with less due to the defensive recruiting at Auburn. He won't have that level here.

3.If he really wanted to be here he would have came last time.

Auburn would be happy to see him go. He has never had great QB play; not sure if that’s a function of recruiting or what. He won big his first year at AU but been about HDN average since then. Likely will be 25-23 in SEC play after this year since his first season. Granted they do play UGA every year. But I view him as a slightly better version of HDN.

I'm not so sure. I made a post yesterday and asked who they wanted. They have zero clue. They also have a thread on their board where the majority wants him.

If hes interested, it's not to get a raise, that wont happen w their new president. This is where taking him could be interesting. They wouldn't be prepared and it would be interesting to see if they could do better. They would probably go after Norvell. Interesting thing is that most of Auburns success has came from Gus. Gus would have relationships in the south that Norvell wouldn't have. Gus would also draw fans to the stadium.

He would win here and win pretty damn soon. I’m thinking bowl game year one and probably 9 or 10 year 2 just because I think kJ was made to run his offense. With the other skill players around him I think Malzahn walks in and has success. But I believe that could also be a problem down the road when his recruiting doesn’t look like it does at Auburn so he ends up averaging 6-7 wins here instead of 8-9 like he has at Auburn. But because of early success and half the fan base worshipping him it will be hard as hell to get rid of him even if we go stagnant. But hell I’d sell my right but for a 7 win season right now much less bitching about only winning 7 games so who cares I’d love with it. We could do worse than Gus. I’d sure as shite take him over that guy from app state. He may turn out to be the next Saban but one year is way way way too little data to go off of especially with the state our program is in now. The only reason Sexton is pushing his name and high freeze is because no other school would touch them right now. Those two should be our very last resort

1. Yes, because he shite all over us, while using us to get himself a fat raise from Auburn.

2. Because he has won the games he has at Auburn, with a talent level that he will never be able to bring to Fayetteville.

3. Because having him in Auburn, being grossly overpaid, is good for Arkansas and bad for Auburn.

4. Because fair or not, he is as polarizing a figure as there is for Arkansas athletics. Hiring him can only split the fanbase.

Those 4 should be more than enough.

I'm not excited about him because he's had Nutt like success at a school that recruits much better than us. His ups have been impressive but he also has shite seasons and I don't think the results he'll bring will justify the money we have to pay him.

I also thought Starkel was going to change our offense for the better this year :/

I remember 4 weeks ago when you thought Chad was a good coach.

Gus’ offense sucks, he knows his team is leaving and he spurned us in 2017.

He’s the least loyal POS in college football.

Did you miss the part where he sold out The Springdale 5 and is basically hated by all of them?

The dude is a bigger POS than Nutt. Is that enough?

I mean, I'm no fan of Gus and he’s way down my list of desired candidates, but can we quit with the "lol Auburn is stuck with Gus" stuff like it's good for our program?

He's been there for 7 years and has bent us over every year except one, and it took 4 overtimes to do it. He has a hard on for beating our arse and circles our game every year, so he’s always going to get his team up to play us.

I laugh when people are like "omg no Gus" then proceed to list Sonny Dykes and Butch Davis.

I posted this elsewhere but hiring Gus is the equivalent of hiring Mike years ago. We're at the bottom of the barrel as a program and he'd with a great staff and come in and stabilize it quickly. We would be above average and compete every game.

I'd take Gus over Norvell. I get he's the popular pick right now but Im not excited about Norvell at all. Maybe y'all know more about him than me though.

I'm not saying it is good for us in the sense that we can compete with them. I'm saying it's good for us in the sense that they are grossly overpaying him, and that with a good coach of our own, we will in fact be able to compete with them.

Isn't that assuming he does the nearly impossible, and pulls the same level of talent to Fayetteville that falls in his lap at Auburn?

Eh, I see no real basis for that. His best year at Auburn was his first year with someone else's players. Outside of that, he's pulled elite talent and has consistently won 7-8 games per year except for last year when he won 10. Assuming the pattern of Arkansas not being able to pull those level of athletes continues, I'd image those 7-8 win seasons would be 5-6 wins here.

Maybe I'm off-base here though.
