If we don't have KJ, how many games would we actually win?

Based on the throws the backup was making, I think our passing game would actually improve.

Was going to be my response as well.

At this point KJ is a glorified fullback.

It's a minor miracle when he hits a receiver in stride. Cade came in and did it more in two drives than KJ did all game. We can't attack the middle of the field through the air with KJ as QB. Cade comes in and all of a sudden quick slants over the middle are a viable option.

He largely throws a beautiful deep ball, but his accuracy is horrendous on slants and horizontal routes.

I don't know if y'all watch any of the clips of practice they post on YouTube, but KJ was consistently missing his mark in throwing drills. He routinely airmailed those set-feet midrange throws from the start of spring ball to the end of fall camp. The lack of improvement is my biggest gripe. He's not getting any better at all in that regard.

He’s definitely not progressed under Briles this year. Accuracy issues aside, he still holds the ball too long, he still can’t progress through reads, he still misses open reads, and he still makes bad decisions in the pocket.

Let the Cade play then. This year is shite. Might as well get some quality experience for the next man up. Pretty sure KJ's Heisman hopes are shot.

Go watch Jim Mora’s “playoffs?!?!” rant and substitute the word “Heisman” and that’s how I feel. Hell I just want to win a game right now.

I don’t ever want to hear the words “Heisman” and “draft” associated with KJ again. Stop it.

I'm not against this.

I love KJ and I'm grateful for his competitive fire reviving the team in key moments, but we can get way better at QB. The question is if that improvement is already on the roster or not.

I think we win more games with KJ, but this year is most likely shot. If we shite out the next couple games, I'd make the change and hopefully next year won't be so shitty.

Lack of talent? That's on the coaches. Go get some dogs.

We have zero instate talent. We could probably do a little better but it's mostly due to our situation. Our recruiting is in line with past classes.

If given first team reps in practice, this may be true. He didn't look bad on the run either.

Probably need to get one in the portal. I would take Franks right now. I appreciate Jefferson and what he has done here but unfortunately he doesn't seem to have it between the ears to be a good QB.

I never understood why anybody considered him a candidate for the Heisman.

Franks wins 10 games with this squad.

He wasn’t the runner KJ is, but he was exponentially better as a passer.

This is going to be a knock on Briles but he hasn't developed KJ worth a damn as a passer. Either Briles is bad at developing QBs or KJ just doesn't have it in him to be a skilled passer.

Mind you I'm not saying KJ is horrible, for what he does, he does it well. He runs hard and he throws a nice deep ball. Unfortunately against elite defenses, which we have a tendency to play, you can't get by on just that.

Great point.

I would’ve expected KJ to be much more developed as a passer considering how long he’s been in this system. The fact that neither Hornsby nor KJ seem to have been developed doesn’t reflect well on Briles position coaching. Ditto for Odom and safeties.

And yet plenty on this board were clammering for raises for both coaches after last season
