How good of an offense would you want to see in order to name briles the coach in waiting?

I know it’s nothing more than an honorary title, but it could keep him around longer if he feels like it’s his job after Pittman retires. Personally if he has a top 15 offense in yards and scoring this season I’d give him another raise but if it’s top 10 nationally I’m giving him the title or at least telling him behind closed doors that after Pittman retires the job is his. Seeing at all the turnover when coaches leave and the recruits that become available in the portal afterwards means continuity is more important than ever. What is the rest of the boards thoughts?

I would like to see more structure in the passing concepts, less "cutesie" crap and more of a "do what we do mentality". I just feel like our passing game is too much draw in the dirt.

agree with all of this. He calls his offense the veer n shoot but to me it just looks like the triple option from the gun where the tight end or slot receiver is the third option in stead of a pitch man. It’s why In the one game we were completely shut down on the ground we had no way of moving the ball because our route tree seems to be super simple.

When he stops all the razzle dazzle bs and runs an offense like BMFP.

Then pay the man.

Unless we pay him 3-5M in that role, he's gone after next year with any level of success.

Grab him after he's proven himself running a smaller program and Pitt is ready to hang it up.

Briles will probably leave. Having said that, I'm not in the least bit worried about a shortage of top coordinators chomping at the bit to coach under Pittman. We'll be fine y'all.

If Pittman keeps it up, he can retire as sort of the Godfather of Arkansas football and have heavy influence in who replaces him. The Pittman model is someone who sees this as a final destination, is down to earth/relatable, has a long track record of building strong relationships with players and other coaches, and is one of the best at what they do. If we can check those boxes with Pittman’s replacement, and Pittman endorses the hire, then I like our chances to keep up the success.

With that being said Pittman is probably at least 4 or 5 years away from even considering retirement.

Usually when teams name a "coach in waiting" that coach leaves and the team falls to shite shortly after. Briles will get a HC job after next year (might stay if KJ comes back) and I will wish him well.

I mean, how often has this actually worked in reality.

Musschamp at TX? I know there were a few, but... I really don't see it as an option honestly.
