Quality thread #54

Holmes played more than Dustin Thomas.

Trey Thompson 6 points and 6 boards in 25 minutes.

Osabuohien had 4 boards and 2 assists in 17 minutes. One handed rebound and assist to barford who made the three

Bailey and cook didn't produce like I would have liked. Combined 19 minutes 0 points, 2 rebounds, 0 assists,3 fouls and 4 turnovers.

I think this was the nicest surprise. Played with a ton of energy. Got some deflections as well.

I liked the energy that Osabuohien provided and Hall as well.
Bailey has been a real disappointment to me this year. I liked his aggressive play against UNC last year and hoped he would blossom this year.

Keep Thomas in street clothes from now on. Sit Cook. Give Gabe all of those minutes fromnow on.

I had people at my house so my attention was divided but is it a bad thing that I was like who is that when I first saw him doing good things?

I really kinda thought overall we played a little better last night- still not what I thought we'd be but a little better.

I'll be honest. I haven't seen his name all season. I still don't know who he is.

Maybe I'm a bad fan these days.

Criticism has been a bit harsh on Bailey IMO. I still like his energy but he really hasn't been given a solid run out.

I like Hall of Osu getting minutes. At least they try to push the pace defensively.

Just sit Beard and Thomas for the rest of the year. They're both essentially useless. Throw Cook in there as well.

Defense was a lot better last night with Hall, Osu and Jones actually giving effort. Jones has a lot to learn but he needs minutes. He's got the athleticism and length to be good.

Jones will have to be one of our primary scorers next year.

.....also had 2 charges (note: I went to check the stats to see where that put him compared to rest of the guys, we don't even record charges as a stat. If we do, they aren't where I can find them.)
Some of the other guys need to take notice of that effort.

Random thoughts:
Macon is really playing at a high level right now.
Our motion offense is 10x better when we aren't clogging the post with Gafford. Opens up our curls and backdoor cuts.
The game is really starting to slow down for Hall. I like his energy.
Gafford really needs another year, and not just for my own selfish reasons.
Beard's shooting percentage is awful, he needs to only shoot layups and become an actual point guard who penetrates and dishes. His and Holmes percentages are basically identical. Lots of shots to get his 9ppg.
We seem to be getting back to making the extra pass when we draw the help defender.
Defense is still hit and miss, but the younger guys are giving us more energy.
Jones needs more minutes, take them from Beard, not Hall.
As we creep closer to being just a bubble team or as we get closer to tourney time, I expect the Seniors to finally start playing with a sense of urgency and we will all be "Where has that been the last 2 months!" (Hopefully)

Nice win. We just have to figure out something on the road or that may just be the excuse to keep us out of the tourney or to seed us against North Carolina in the first round somehow.

I’m assuming Thomas is sitting for disciplinary reasons but Mike doesn’t want to say it. Talk about a huge failure. He comes in and immediately gets involved in the counterfeiting scandal, then when he does finally play, he sucks. I have the same feelings on Cook. Has never even looked decent and has a bunch of behavior issues. If they weren’t seniors I think Mike would have already kicked them off the team.

Preach. Both are a collassal waste of space. Cook has shown some ability to hit mid range shots but its too sporadic to really create any kind of threat and open things up for others.

Neither can dribble, pass or rebound particularly well or defend. They're basically 6-8 versions of Beard. Sucks having three of those types of players as seniors we were supposed to "count" on.

This was the biggest difference for me in them vs Osabuohien. I think most of it is just effort but you can see Osabuohien hustling and trying his best.

Osabuohien played very well. I liked the energy.

That being said, I'm noticing a trend here. We've had a bit of a revolving door in the lineup (Thomas, Bailey, Cook, Osabuohien, Hall, etc.). Seems like a lot of guys play their way into the starting lineup with 'high energy' type of plays, but then forget what got them to the starting lineup. Hopefully Osabuohien keeps up the high energy play.

Gotta start playing your guys at some point for next year.

Even Mike isn't that stupid.

Loved the defensive energy and hustle. The mindset of someone scrapping for their miniutes and opportunities cannot be taken lightly. One of the few times recently I've seen a player for us play with 100% intesnity and effort, we need more of that.
