re: Long season of basketball

We can’t shoot and we know it, yet we also can’t rebound. If most shots we take are statistically misses, we should be better at rebounding. Takes absolutely zero talent to rebound. 100% effort.
But we are far enough into the season to see what we are doing isn’t working. Some lineup and substitution patterns need to change. Some role reassignments need to take place. And some changes in offensive philosophy too. Basically plan A is out the door. What’s plan B?
I would like to see the offense to be less ball dominated by Boogie. Some inside out action. Aidoo looked better today. Brazile has vanished again. How can every team we face have multiple guys who can knock down 3s, but we haven’t had one in years (that was also a major D1 level talent)? Feels like we just paid more money for the same frustrating results and less sideline antics.

I wonder if Tennessee had a shoot around today before the game.

If this is the best we can hit while cheating, we also need to get better at cheating.

If anyone is a real glutton for punishment, go back and scan through about the first 20 or so pages of this thread. Amazing how the wheels completely fell off based on pre-season expectations.

I wonder how big a deal any of this would be if we were 18-2 instead of 10-10?

We are running an NBA style offense without NBA players. We had 5 last year and it was still a struggle. It’s like trying to run a pro style offense in football with a glorified TE as QB.
My biggest issue is the defensive end of the floor. We cannot contain the basketball. I don’t know if we are trying so hard to bring the intensity that Muss wants them to (trying to earn more pt?) that we are too close to the ball. After one dribble they are beat and the whole thing breaks down and we are in help/recover mode. And we aren’t very good at our rotations. We do get after it and Muss’ style of play isn’t the easiest on they eyes, but it’s effective when executed properly.

As a former high school coach and college player, I would like more clarification on this. I can’t imagine trying to teach/simulate zone offense concepts, transition defense, and press offense (and probably 20 other things) without live 5v5 1s vs 2s. If he means they don’t go out and scrimmage like a live game and work solely situations, that’s much more reasonable. But there is only so much drills can show you as opposed to live action.
*Disclaimer- I have never won an NCAA tournament game or been to an Elite 8/Sweet 16, so he’s doing something right.

I’d be curious to see our assist to turnover ratio from each game. It was roughly 1:2 tonight. 9 assists on 83 points.
Wife just had baby #2 so I haven’t been able to watch every minute. When I do, it’s not real pretty on either end of the floor.

Just some ole cold beer. But I’m not promoting it.

Are there rules/laws against NIL/collectives specifically for individual sports? Just seems like it would get more people to donate if they knew it was going to a sport they wanted.

Anybody see the tweet by Steve Sullivan? Supposedly muss broke down every play of all 3 games personally. You think Pittman would ever do something like that?

I’m afraid my nightmare is coming true and our only realistic options for OC are Kenny Guiton and Jim Chaney.

This team needs to find their Kamani Johnson. Really needed some toughness tonight. I’d rather have our Mid-Major upset happen in November than March anyway.

Herman
Glad to see I’m not the only one. I like a lot of the G5 names being tossed around too. But, I need someone to convince me he isn’t the best possible candidate right now. Seems to check all the boxes most people are looking for.
P5 head coaching experience. This seems to be the main hangup on most of the other candidates. I’m not saying they have to have it, just one of the negatives I see thrown around.
Ties to Texas, Florida, and possibly some Ohio region recruiting.
Only making around $750k at FAU. Think his buyout is around $2 million.
Offensive minded coach.
Probably only coach out there that hates Texas as much as our fanbase. Would love the Texas melt every year we beat them with him on the sidelines doing the Horns Down. Missouri probably hates him after their bowl game a few years ago when he was mocking their QB.
Young enough to still have something to prove and not just cash a retirement check.
Also noticed he was Guiton’s OC as OSU. His stint at Texas wasn’t great, but has anyone been great since Mack Brown?
Traylor and UTSA just went to FAU and beat them 36-10 so there’s that.
Surely Yurachek realizes the decision to keep or let Pittman go and who his replacement is could cost him his job no matter how successful all the other sports are. Now if Muss gets a Final Four this year that could save him, but that’s about it.
We just need some excitement in the program again. Losing 6 in a row no matter how close they were has just sucked all the life from football. Our coach doesn’t have to win the press conference, they need to win games.

re: Name one aspect of the game this team is good

I think the defense gave up 2 TDs and 2 FGs today and one of those TDs was after the weekly shotgun 4th and 1 failed attempt. Not bad considering.
I think the offensive line play/offensive scheme is so bad that it is putting the whole team at a disadvantage. Instead of just struggling to move the ball inside the red zone like last year, we have decided to make it the entire 100 yards this season.

AJ Green averages almost 10 yards a carry, gets 9 carries the entire game. 3rd most on the team tonight. Looked like our best back last week as well.
Isaiah Sategna takes a punt 85 yards to the house and gets one offensive touch. Not saying he is Joe Adams, but feels like the closest thing we have had since him.
There are plenty of issues to discuss after tonight’s performance, but these two I just can’t make sense.

Seems like AJ needs more touches. I think he had good runs to start two series, got subbed, and didn’t come back in. He seems to be the only back right now with enough wiggle to make something positive behind this line.

When I first read that quote I had the same reaction as everyone else. But it also felt off or forced. Is it a possibility his group/agent has put this out there to try and convince teams that what they saw last year is just the tip of the iceberg and not a finished product? If he had came out and said “This past season was the best version of me you will see” it may give some teams pause on his potential.
Again, it’s a bad look. But maybe it was a bad choice of words for the right reasons. At least I hope so. I would assume most NBA organizations talk to their college coaches when evaluating a prospect. So it just seems like you wouldn’t intentionally make a comment like that.
