Good find, and of note for anyone who thinks we’re going to take a significant step back.

People can point to yardage stats all they want, but points and scoring efficiency the stats that matter.

TL;DR - in Enos’ and Briles’ best seasons 2015, 2022), Enos gained slightly fewer yards but averaged 3 more PPG. In their second best seasons, Enos again accounted for fewer yards but PPG is nearly identical, and that was with a new quarterback.

That alone probably cost us 5 PPG each season with him.

Nothing about Enos is ground and pound. Last time he was here, we ran it around 100 times less per season than what we did this year. If anything, we’re going to pass the ball more going forward.

Most people don’t understand for Briles, Kiffin and Gus offense to work they need a back getting yards to keep them in schedule.

But also is it 100 less times because we were way slower and ran 300 less plays over all?

Looks like that 2015 team was #1 in offensive efficiency too.

If only we could have had our 2014 with our 2015 offense. That team would have made a lot of noise.

Yep.

Ole Miss’ game against us this year is all the proof you need about how yardage stats don’t matter and can become empty calories quickly if you don’t convert in the red zone.

Ole Miss outgained us by 200 yards in total offense and had two 200 yard rushers, and they still lost by 2 scores (and all 3 of their TDs came in garbage time).

Also, we also outgained Liberty and A&M in both losses, and nearly outgained LSU. Illustrative of my point.

Enos always seemed like he could script a good couple series to start games, besides red zone playcalling this was a consistent flaw of Briles, he couldn’t script worth a shite. Seemed the first drive or two was always 3 and out.

Only if by “meh” you mean “responsible for the 2nd and 6th best offenses in the history of our program by the time he left”….then yeah.

Or the most PPG in a season for an offense not led by Bobby Petrino?

2015 team should have won 10 plus.

I’d argue that he was our “coolest” looking coach in recent memory. Dude knows how to dress.

It’s wild that Briles had our 2nd best total offense of all-time this year and that was only good for 5th best offense in the SEC.

Interesting tidbit from Fayette Villains:

quote:

Any Hog fan excited about the Enos hire is thinking of Arkansas’ 2015 offense, which was amazing. The Hogs averaged 465.5 yards per game and 35.9 points per game, which is about the same yardage and three more points per game than this year’s team. (For what it’s worth, three more points per game would turn Arkansas’ record from 7-6 to 10-2-1.)

I appreciate this graphic. So what this shows is they are very comparable coordinators as far as points per game is concerned.

Now add in the fact that Enos was doing this when we were playing Bert ball control to shorten the game, and ask yourself who is the better QB developer, and you should be very happy with this hire
