Ole Miss has always cheated. They just weren't as good at it until recently.

Are you hearing anything interesting?

I've been talking to some folks, and it seems like Pittman/HY were selling "keeping the team together" for the last couple months hard, and that was the whole reason Pittman was retained. Either Sam or HY (or both) fully believed they would keep the most important core group with very little attrition this off-season, and that was sold to the boosters and other big money/big influence people.

There is a lot of shock, anger, and embarrassment going around the big money people right now and they're pissed because either the coaches were completely fooled, or they sold a bill of lies. Arkansas being at the top of the list of outgoing portal players and gaining national attention for it is really rubbing some the wrong way, and these are people that hold the purse and job strings.

We will see what happens, but it's clear from even most casual observer that something is very wrong behind the scenes. Its not just NIL, we were paying a lot of these guys leaving fairly decent rates. Some were even making more than their production would earn them elsewhere.

Its something else that is going on, largely. But I don't have anyone inside the AD to give me the general feeling there, just know some people that are high up the food chain when it comes to financially supporting and influencing the AD.

I had hoped Pittman’s ability to build relationships would offset our crap NIL, money isn’t everything and all that. Without proper NIL, the relationship angle would be our only hope.

Because every 18 year old would take friendship over money.

It's a perception/winning problem.

Like a veteran leaving a playoff hopeful for a paycut to join a championship contender on the pro level.

If they have a big game then they expect a big check from Arkansas. If they can get similar money from from a contender then they will go that route.

This isn't going to change with the administration in place ok the football side.

The inverse is true for basketball, they will take similar to less to play for cal because he is perceived to be the reason for all his players success (contracts) in the NBA. He will get you into the lottery, he will teach you how to be a pro.

The football side will remain the same until a coach who is thought to "get guys to the NFL" is in place in the current climate. HY needs to be replaced with a former GM type executive. Facilities and secondary sports mean dick today.

Is there any real credence to him being good at managing relationships?

From an outsider looking in it’s been constant rotating doors of staff and players. Throw in a few really bad seasons, last year in particular and it’s pretty clear he’s got a lot more going on than just “lack of NIL money”.

Even those leaving like the guy and have no hard feelings.

Being likable isn't the same as being good at relationships. We all have that lovable loser in life that you can help but love, but won't let drag you down to that level. (If you don't them it's you).

The offensive line showing up at his house begging him to stay with Bert. Players he’s coached coming out of the woodwork to congratulate him when hired. His recruiting success prior to being head coach.

I’d chalk the rotating door problem up to more his inexperience being head coach.

Enough for a change? Honestly this scares me unless the first firing is HY. Not that I think Pittman is irreplaceable, but for HY specifically I think he might be. I just can't fathom him convincing a coach worth a damn to work under his authority with how he has done nothing but be a hindrance since the NIL era started.

HY has been scared shitless during every coaching search as has relied on outside influence to make the pick for him.

He is the Bert of ADs, talk big and loud, made his living on the accomplishments of his predecessors.

The problem with firing Yuracheck right now is that we will end up at the mercy of our dumb boosters again and they got more money than sense when it comes to these coaching searches. Without a strong AD in place, it will end up another disaster.

At this point you lose the recruiting class if you fire Sam. This is a problem as you are going to need the guys who can contribute to replace the guys in the portal.

But it is the perfect time to fire HY.

The next AD can handle the football hire next November, they can practice with the WBB hire this March.

Was thinking this earlier.

You fire him. Next year is Sam’s. The new AD has no loyalty to Sam and sets the standards where they should be. 8+ wins and 2 top 25 wins… in the top 25 every year and every 4 years be in or around the play offs.

Like Nutt was when a portion of the “fanbase” ran him off.

Nutt had back to back 4 win seasons, then he brought in this high school offensive coordinator combined with Heisman talent… otherwise he would have been shite again.

That 2008 team would have been Chad Morris level bad with Nutt at head coach instead of Petrino. He would have killed Michael Smith running the vanilla wildcat all game long trying to recapture the magic.

Evidently we are about to become a shell of our former selves which ain’t saying a whole lot. Man non playoff bowl season is abysmal.
