I said Venables following the South Carolina game. I won't be shocked at all. He had to have been the second candidate they spoke to. Otherwise I wouldn't have heard it.

Why would we wait a week to hire a coordinator? Does not compute.
Gus has big name appeal. It would have looked good nationally.
Norvell is a big up and comer. He's the kind of coach that could be the next Urban Meyer or the next Kevin Sumlin.
Kiffen would recruit well. He could probably put together a really good staff. I'm not convinced he wouldn't bail on us in a couple of seasons if he had some success.
Venables would be the guy you hire if everyone else turns you down. He's been a coordinator for so long he's going to be the next Norm Chow.

And why do you fire your athletic director and spend tens of millions of dollars to hire a coordinator. And when you're cutting the ribbon on a huge stadium expansion and you need a sell out crowd, why the hell would you hire a defensive coordinator? Yikes.

Venables was a primary candidate from the beginning. Don't believe it if you want, but it's true. We were never getting Gus for the same reason I told y'all last night. It was too much money. Especially for Gus.
I was told 2 weeks ago from someone who makes this shite their business (not someone who tries to buy influence) that firing Bielema and Long to hire Gus would cost 30 million dollars and Gus "ain't worth a frickin penny".
It was never happening. BB and his buddies couldn't buy everyone, essentially. Gus fricked it all up 10 years ago

Mattingly has been saying that the Gus thing essentially has no chance if happening for a week now.. Also threw cold water on the Gragg hire news too. Essentially said his source is a BoT member and someone inside the Ath Dept.
