Huge difference between a gameday, a night of people out drinking and listening to music, and regular traffic, and the noise generated by drunken Okies on beater Harleys who've saved up their pennies from sharpening chainsaw blades all summer and this is their big hoorah so frick everybody.

Living in town is great. Living in town for a white-trash noisefest is literally the only week I don't like living in town.

Has anyone else drawn the parallel between bikers and juggalos? Their shitty taste in music is shitty for different reasons, but they're basically cousins.

I walked by a group of particularly rotund bikers today. It smelled like straight wet dog and gangrenous, amputated extremities. It smelled like a fermented, possibly sentient fungus that had been long growing in a place on their body they had forgotten due to losing the ability to reach it. It smelled like the one time a year they took a bath, they forgot to take the meth lab out of the tub first.

I don't have to think I'm "better than everyone" to say frick that shite. I don't particularly mind the noise and traffic. It's only for a few days and gives us a nice little economy boost. But quit coming here and lowering the resale value of everyone's houses because you leave a stench that can't be cleansed by modern science. Also, when a sign reads "Don't Park Your Stupid Gay fricking Bike Here, This Spot Is for Residents Only", that's not a suggestion. We need a committee that goes around and empties their oxygen tanks any time this happens.

Oh, and other colors besides black exist. They're clearly unaware of this. Why does every "hardcore" counter-culture have some rule of wearing solid black as their uniform? This whole event is really just a crappy fair without any awesome rides and all the overpriced fried food. Yes, I would love your three dollar bottle of water. Lube is extra? Nevermind, just spit on it.

But just you wait. "Charity" isn't just the lame-arse reason given for the shitbirds and losers who profit off this event to evacuate the city of decent folks...No, "Charity" happens to be the stage name of one of the gals from the 4th string of daytime stripper hookers at Club Hots who will SOON be taking the stage, stretchmarks and all, for the Miss BBBBBBBQ "pageant". Then you'll have that you mentioned above, plus you'll be treated to other exotic sights and smells that you can't get anywhere this side of a Pope County meth party. Fun for the whooooooole family.

This is from my litigation brethren Bailey & Oliver in NWA. It appears on their Facebook page and in light of the discussion I'll paste it here:

Bikes, Blues and BBQ, September 21st - 24th will bring thousands of bikers to Northwest Arkansas for the largest charity driven motorcycle rally in the world! (BBB has raised over 1.3 million dollars for local charities since it's beginning in 2000.) Fayetteville, AR is the official host city for the event but bikers will enjoy our beautiful scenery and twisting back roads of the three county area. (Washington, Benton and Madison counties.)

Bailey & Oliver encourages you to drive safe and watchout for motorcycles during Bikes, Blues and BBQ. Here are a few safety tips to remember when you are on the highway in your car or truck:

Ten Things All Car & Truck Drivers Should Know About Motorcycles

1.There are a lot more cars and trucks than motorcycles on the road, and some drivers don't "recognize" a motorcycle; they ignore it (usually unintentionally). Look for motorcycles, especially when checking traffic at an intersection.

2.Because of its small size, a motorcycle may look farther away than it is. It may also be difficult to judge a motorcycle's speed. When checking traffic to turn at an intersection or into (or out of) a driveway, predict a motorcycle is closer than it looks.

3.Because of its small size, a motorcycle can be easily hidden in a car's blind spots (door/roof pillars) or masked by objects or backgrounds outside a car (bushes, fences, bridges, etc.). Take an extra moment to thoroughly check traffic, whether you're changing lanes or turning at intersections.

4.Because of its small size, a motorcycle may seem to be moving faster than it really is. Don't assume all motorcycles are speed demons.

5.Motorcyclists often slow by downshifting or merely rolling off the throttle, thus not activating the brake light. Allow more following distance, say 3 or 4 seconds. At intersections, predict a motorcyclist may slow down without visual warning.

6.Turn signals on a motorcycle usually are not self-canceling, thus some riders, (especially beginners) sometimes forget to turn them off after a turn or lane change. Make sure a motorcycle's signal is for real.

7.Motorcyclists often adjust position within a lane to be seen more easily and to minimize the effects of road debris, passing vehicles, and wind. Understand that motorcyclists adjust lane position for a purpose, not to be reckless or show off or to allow you to share the lane with them.

8.Maneuverability is one of a motorcycle's better characteristics, especially at slower speeds and with good road conditions, but don't expect a motorcyclist to always be able to dodge out of the way.

9.Stopping distance for motorcycles is nearly the same as for cars, but slippery pavement makes stopping quickly difficult. Allow more following distance behind a motorcycle because it can't always stop "on a dime".

10.When a motorcycle is in motion, don't think of it as a motorcycle; think of it as a person.

Doesn't seem to be as much traffic out by me so far.

Last year I had to run a number of people off the property at gunpoint. Maybe I didn't "have to" but I sure didn't mind doing it.

Bikes, blues, brews and BBQ are all things I love so I would probably love to be involved, however, I can see that people who just want some quiet Wouldn't.

My buddy who works at Dickson St. Pub is real excited to work this weekend so he can crack domestic longnecks all night and tell 500 or so stinky-asses that they do not serve any food.

Bikes blues and bbq. Sucks. I get why business owners love it but it blows for employees and everyone who has to actually be in town to deal with it. On top of that you can't even get away to the first as they ride up and down the fricking pig trail fricking that up as well.

I agree with everything in your post except this. I don't buy it, I've seen the sales tax revenue numbers by month for last year and there was no noticeable bump in September. I ate at Flying Burrito on Dickson yesterday and there were fewer people in there than normal.

I'm also extremely skeptical of the 400,000 attendance figure from last year. Maybe 50,000, most from AR, OK, and MO.

We may need to follow Mizzou's lead and create some safe spaces for our brothers and sisters here in Arkansas.

That's a nice part of town. I've debated moving near Dickson but with my parents' health on the decline I'm not ready to splash the cash to live there just yet.

I went to the archives and found WMR's BBBBQ thread from two years ago which is twelve pages in length and a good read. LINK. WMR starts a lot of threads so it took me a while to find it.

The evacuation was to Hot Springs a couple of years ago and LR this year so it could be persuasively argued that BBBBQ actually promotes tourism within the State by forcing NWA residents out of their enclaves into other communities where they will spend money and help support other local economies which is important for our State as a whole. You see it truly is a win-win.

TL; DR: They ain't changing things to appease some delicate flowers who post anonymously on sports message boards--it's America.
