Stetson was a weekend series, lol. It went four games, but we still split with them.

Might as well quit watching every sport we play if this is what it takes to show up for a game.
I agree with this. And furthermore, even the CWS isn't the goal every year. We're occasionally going to have disappointing years like this one where we weren't who we thought we were (and it's still always possible for us to get hot during the Regionals and go on a run), but the tournament in baseball is not the same as basketball. Getting to host the Regionals and Super Regionals is an insane advantage, especially to a team that has a home crowd advantage like Arkansas. When you're in the top five - if not #1 - when the Regionals roll around, and you just DO NOT lose at home, you should be a lock for the CWS 90% of the time.
As tiring as it is to keep falling short for seemingly no reason, it's gotten even more frustrating in that nothing ever gets done about it. There seems to be no investigation into what goes wrong. No one gets replaced. No philosophy gets changed. We just try it again next year to the same results.
How can you really blame people for being tepid?

It's incredible to be as good as we have for as long as we have. 99% of college programs would trade places with us in a heartbeat. We're sitting here ranked in the top 20 with an outside shot to host talking about how it's a "down" year.
It just goes to show how spoiled the fanbase has gotten by how good we've been and the goalposts shifting to unreasonable levels over the course of DVH's tenure. Sure a natty would be awesome and we've reached the point where it's a realistic conversation to have on a yearly basis, but would you rather be us or South Carolina? I'm sure they enjoy having hardware from a decade ago, but not to the point of being able to stomach knowing they're going to be in the cellar on an annual basis nowadays.
I get being frustrated at having to fight so hard to get over the hump. I am too, but the baseball program is still worth a hell of a lot more support than half the stadium leaving in a rubber match. That just irked the hell out of me.

Wrong, Stetson was a weekend series of 3 games in which we won 2 of the 3. The Monday game was midweek with our midweek lineup and arms, which is why there was no other game during the week. We outscored them 21-6.

For RPI, strength of schedule, or general discussion, the Monday Stetson game counts as a midweek/non-weekend game.

I did see that DJ Baxendale has been named the GM for baseball starting July 1.
Looks like Dave still wants to win.

Arkansas baseball is under pressure because it has more wins than every college baseball program since 2018 and has nothing to show for it.

Dave is getting out worked again next season.
I'll be interested to see how Wes Johnson finishes the season.
Very different approach at recruiting.

This will be the second straight class where Arkansas is outside the Top 10 nationally. They’re 11th in the SEC for the 2026 rankings, that’s way down. Only 11 players in the class. 4 pitchers, 3 OF and 3 shortstops plus a catcher. Expect 10-12 players to be signed out of the portal this summer, maybe more.

I’m sure we can guess, agents/ advisors etc
Not specific to baseball but schools will have to have better contracts moving forward with NIL. You get cleared by the team to play, and you decide not to then you ain’t getting paid.

There's no point in keeping up with recruiting class rankings until after the draft. All of those top classes are going to lose guys.

This.
Baseball recruiting isn’t like football and basketball in that there’s a downside to having one of the top rated classes because more than a few of your top guys might not even make it to campus. DVH has even mentioned this in terms of slightly altering who they go after.
SEC rosters have also been skewing older as coaches have gone to the portal more heavily. I’ll be more interested in terms of who we’re able to pull out of the portal.
College baseball recruiting is also really hard to project. Just look at Brumbaugh - he was a huge get in recruiting and named preseason SEC freshman of the year, and he hasn’t played meaningful innings since the last non-conference series before we started SEC play and will probably be playing elsewhere next year.

This is becoming a trend. I also realize the draft eats up lots of talented players. As always Kevin tends to overreact, he probably needs to stick to basketball
I'm not advocating for less high school recruits but damn, they really need to grade out high before we take them.
I'm looking at the kid from Oklahoma, Brumbaugh.
