Folks you want to know why we couldn't set an edge all year?

Ledbetter 4.85
Wise 4.93

But but but Coach Herb is the best in the business

I was always told you can't teach speed. Maybe beilama just needs to be able to recognize when a guy is slow and get some guys with speed

I didn't keep up with recruiting this year but did he focus on speed more?
Also, it seems Herbert really really needs to adjust his program and help guys get faster instead of bulkier and heavier.

40 times for DL are so pointless.

What did Morgan run and how much did he bench? Didn't see it earlier in the thread?

What were their shuttle times? The real indicator

4.74 on his first attempt and 4.8 on his second (last among WRs). He did 10 reps.

20 yard:
Morgan- 4.12 (8th best)
Hatcher- DNP
Sprinkle- DNP
Ellis- 4.36 (6th best)
Wise- 4.36 (9th best)
Ledbetter- 4.56
Skipper- 5.01
60 yard:
Morgan- 11.19 (5th best)
Ellis- 11.28 (2nd best)
Hatcher- DNP
Sprinkle- DNP
Ledbetter- DNP
A lot of the LBs didn't participate in the shuttles but Ellis' time is still good and surprised me.
The 3 cone drill times:
Ellis- 6.8 (3rd best)
Morgan- 6.85
Ledbetter- 7.55 (3rd best)
Skipper- 7.61 (9th best)
Wise- DNP
Hatcher- DNP
Sprinkle- DNP
Interested to see if Hatcher does any of these drills at the pro day. I'll probably use this thread for that too. Reed's 40 time will be one to watch.

I knew we were on the low end of overall team speed but this is eye opening. It's no wonder big plays were so few and far between on offense and why giving up big plays on defense became a major issue. We really are a big 10 team.

They done any weights yet? Maybe Atleast were strong and slow instead of what I'm expecting

Reed runs a 4.39 and had a 40" vertical with an 11'4" broad jump. Crazy. But we all knew he would lol.
Jared Collins with a good broad jump of 10.6
Bench press numbers:
Hollister- 29
Ellis- 21
Winston- 21
Walker- 20
Skipper- 19
Sprinkle- 15
Reed- 6

I bet it is hard as frick to bench that with Skippers wingspan. He was never the most muscular guy to begin with but then you've also got a mile to go in between reps.

I'm no Skipper fanboy, but Ross Tucker has said repeatedly on his podcast that bench press is an irrelevant measurement for offensive lineman because long arms are an asset in pass protection, whereas they're a liability in bench press.

Wow Wise is slow
He looked and played slow this year, too. I'm not sure what happened from his junior year to his senior year, but he completely lost his burst. After coming off the line, he had absolutely no counterpunch besides his spin, and he often got turned around and blocked out of the play when it didn't work (which it rarely did).
