If you listen to DVH, pitching is the deepest we've ever had. Even with the loss of Wiggins. Haven't heard much about the offense. We are about to find out though.

Pitching is very deep compared to the last few years. Outside of veterans, Smith, Tygart, McEntire, and Morris, Hunter Hollan is the probably the biggest one to watch this year. He's a Juco transfer who's on all of the top 100 2023 draft boards.

Other names:

Cody Adcock, will probably be another name to possibly see start if one of the main 3 get injured or just need some rest.
Koty Frank, a grad transfer from Nebraska, has comparisons to Noland. Relies, more on location and keeping the ball down to force grounders and such.

These 2 will probably the top middle relievers outside of Morris.

Austin Ledbetter is one to watch for mid week games and middle relief, innings eater.
Jake Faherty - Wiggins clone in a way. Has location issues. Gets wild.
Dylan Carter

Freshmen to watch:

RHP Cooper Dossett - DVH spoke highly of him
RHP Gage Wood - Closer candidate
RHP Josy Hyneman - Late relief, Closer candidate as well
LHP Parker Coil - Soft tossing lefty
LHP Sean Fitzpatrick

Veteran LHP Nick Griffin, former Top 100 in his class, will be redshirting.

In the lineup, Stovall and Slavens return. Hearing Slavens is looking more like his 2021 form. Stovall will be steady. Bohrofen will be is RF for now. Hopefully, he is over his injuries and can reach his full potential. He's a former top 40 player.

Caleb Cali and Wegner will probably have the most production of the new guys. Josenberger will surprise a lot of people, though.

Bolton at SS is good defensively. I wonder if his backup Harold Coll will settle down and eventually take over. He's a got a much better bat.

Polk and Rowland at C will both start this weekend. Polk is better defensively, but Rowland is a switch hitter with a better bat. Hearing Polk has very surprising power though when he connects.

Top backups and DH candidates:

J. Jones
Mason Neville
Kendall Diggs
Reese Robinette
Ben McLaughlin

There's a lot of potential, offensively.

Defensively will be a less than last couple of years. You can't replace a Wallace, Moore, and Battles infield defensively.

I hope it’s not like football where our new WRs looked great in practice mainly because our secondary sucked.

I want to believe we have an awesome pitching staff but it’s just as likely that we can’t hit.

Agreed, but I do like, at least, having the veteran transfers in Frank and Adcock. They won't be wide-eyed like the freshmen arms will be, but we will need at least 1 or two of the freshmen to step up to have a decent pen at the worst. Hopefully, more than that actually do step up and give DVH and Hobbs more options as we get into conference play and then the post season.

Very different.

You can actually judge just straight bullpen work to see how much filth a pitcher has.

What you can't measure is the competitive nature of a pitcher to throw their best stuff in the right spot at the biggest point of the game. Knight was great at this. It's also why Mac has the mound Saturday.

Poor kid can't see the baseball and Dave somehow thinks he can.

So we still can’t fricking hit, still swing for the fences every AB, still take first pitch strikes right down Broadway, still get counts run 0-2 too often, and strike out way too much.

But people think Matt Hobbs is the weak link in the coaching staff? FOH.

We've squared some up pretty good, but yeah we still swing and miss too much.

Seems like things stay the same. Thankfully Smith is dealing.

The kid swings so hard he looks like he’s going to simultaneously throw his back out and crush his left ankle.

Every great once in awhile he’ll barrel it up, but it’s not worth the K’s.
