Sheesh. That needs to be fixed with the quickness for next year. Totally unacceptable.

To think that we still won the SEC and took Michigan into overtime despite this is remarkable. But it is totally unacceptable at the same time.

Two most sacked QBs ever in the last 3 seasons. Pathetic. It’s gotta get fixed now or coaches gotta get gone.

And yet, DESPITE all of that hot, putrid, festering garbage, this team won an SEC Championship and was incredibly close to playing for a NC.

Just wild.

Wolford needs to be a coaching fool this Spring and August. There is ZERO reason with all these former 4-5 star players coming out of HS that these guys are this bad. It HAS to be about the coaching and development, and that falls squarely on Wolford.

Frankly, if there’s not dramatic improvement next Fall, his butt needs to be sent packing and Bama needs to spend whatever it takes to get a fire breathing, put the fear of God into the players yet good teaching O line coach.

And another thing, I hope all of the returning starters are told that no one’s job is safe this Spring and August. If they want to keep their jobs, they better earn it. If a walk on is better, PLAY HIM!!!!!

I know very little about Wolford… but he should probably be fired. These stats are disgusting, in the worst possible way.

Why wait until next year? I hope CNS has already "encouraged" him to look around, because it seems to be a major case of coaching malpractice going on with EW.

I promise this is the last time I'll say this:

If the QB holds the ball a long time he is likely to take a lot of sacks.

Our QB held the ball longer than any QB in the league thus he was sacked a lot.

It wasn't all on this OL. They played well at times, and have a lot of talent everywhere but center.

This is also an OC problem. Once this became a theme you have to make adjustments to get the ball out faster, or roll the pocket, or give some eye candy to slow down rushers.

Clearly that Bryce Young fella has trouble reading defenses, holds on to the ball too long, and takes too many unnecessary sacks

Winning covers a multitude of sins, as the saying goes...

I think CNS has taken a 'go along to get along' approach in some respects in recent years to placate the modern athlete. Personally I'd rather he lose a bunch of players to the portal going back to doing it HIS way here on in. Anything less will accelerate some of the slippage we've already seen the last couple of seasons.

Same holds true holding his coaching staff to a higher standard.

Bryce did hold onto the ball for too long at times. But he could also read defenses a lot better hence Bama’s better offensive output last year with an equally unimpressive receiving unit

Josh Pate claimed before the season that he had sources inside the program that thought Wolford was the overall best assistant coach here.

It’s really hard to believe that’s the case.

It’s not just guys getting beat. It’s free rushers and completely unblocked defenders. There’s way too much confusion when defenses bring different rushers. They’re completely lost.

I think it’s certainly plausible to put some blame on the QB too. He’s supposed to identify these things before the snap and too often a guy blitzing comes completely unrecognized by the QB or the O line.

Me putting any blame on Milroe isn’t me saying he’s completely at fault. He definitely isn’t. Bust some of it is on him. It has to be. It can’t be that bad if the QB knows what he’s doing with adjusting protection.

Whatever it is it has to get fixed.

Right, which is why these stats are so eye popping and historically bad. It was a perfect storm of bad oline play plus a QB that held onto the ball too long and perhaps didn't know which protections to call(even though Saban said that was by and large the O line's responsibility.)

True

What’s also true is half the season Milroe was retreating 10 yards deep in the pocket and taking sacks on wide angle pass rushes that no one should ever take, especially a mobile QB who can exploit the loss of gap contain.

Expecting a TF LT to protect elite edge guys when you aren’t stepping up in the pocket is death for an offense.

The qb doesn’t know how to set protections or anticipate where the blitz may come from. Doesn’t look at hot reads.
A phenomenal athlete who is very accurate but from here on out he will be tested every game and it’s fortunate Simpson is now as experienced as he is because if Milroe can’t figure it out we will need him.
