Someone who struck fear into opposing players; an Alpha among Alphas.

I'd also say Cornelius Bennett.
Look up video of "The Sack" on Steve Buerline.
He absolutely buried him.
Huge momentum swing after that play as BAMA crushed Nortre Dame.
Also, Reuben Foster trucked and tarnished Leonard Fournette's superman image on the 2014 end of regulation kickoff.
Momentum certainly carried over for the OT win over LSU.

Thomas and Bennett are before my time. In recent history I’d go with McClain or Foster.

Even though he didn’t play defense, Julio Jones struck fear into opposing teams. Was an absolute monster.

I think Derrick Henry is the right answer.

There have been a lot of crazy/freak defensive players that opposing players have been scared to get hit by. That's pretty natural - defensive players are trying to hit offensive players.

Henry is the only offensive player I've ever seen linebackers genuinely scared to tackle.

Depends on what savage means. I would say that it would be someone from back in the day when men played with broken legs, nearly torn off ears, shattered noses, etc.
