A title in 4 years? I'll take that. Who realistically wouldn't?
Two things I'll never forget from my time at the Capstone.
1) As a freshman in 2000, walking across the Quad for a Monday, 8 a.m. class (wth was I thinking?) After losing to either LSU or UCF and seeing a Dubose dummy, complete with sweater and headset, hanging from a tree on the Quad.
2) After Fran left us someone posted his cell on the front door of the Corner Store(RIP). I called it and his VM was absolutely him. My friends and I called it later that night and someone hacked his VM, changed the message and it said something to the effect of: "you have reached coach Fran. I'm the lying son of a bitch that left yall hanging in the middle of the night... blah, blah." It was classic. And there was a car that someone had written on the back glass: "Fran, your heart may be in Texas, but your daughter's flower stays in T-town." Ouch.

He might do a fine job, but this is like Alabama hiring Mike Price back... on steroids.
For the 40 somethings... who remembers Derrick Pope?

Derrick Pope. What a damn headhunter.

I'm glad you are so confident in his abilities....sorry I'm not.

So you think Bama loses to Clemson if Kiffin calls that NC game instead of Sark?

I'll pass. Thanks.

Sark? Is this real life? That would be more depressing than losing to Clemson. An entire season of misery. He already cost us one NC....
A lot of kids in third world countries are going to have Bama Natl Championship shirts in a couple weeks.
No wrong answer. Let's assume and hope Saban wins one more National Championship... which ring would you appreciate the most? His first against Texas that announced Alabama was back? Or the (hopefully) next that moves him past Coach Bryant. Or an entirely different one? Every NCG I find myself telling myself that If we win this one and don't win another for the foreseeable future, I need to appreciate the last decade and be happy. But I always find a justification to genuinely want just one more. This one moves him ahead of Bear. So now I find myself saying... 'Just one more...' so what is your favorite Natty under Saban and why?

By far... worst game I've ever attended. That's saying something, considering I took my future wife to Saban vs. La. Monroe for her first Bama game ever. Yep. We all know how that turned out.

Well said. Although....That was like getting blue balls for an entire college student career. It was fun though... for a few minutes.

I was there 2000 to 2004 and agree, for the most part. I do remember 2000 when the Iron Bowl was played, ln the sleet, in BDS for the first time in 100 years. (Auburn-9,Tide-0) There were people driving up and down University that literally couldn't give a ticket away. True story.

I will say that as a student we got the entire season of tix for like $5 each. I understand students only get a few games now. Which makes it hard to understand why they dont want to take advantage of their limited opportunities.

I was talking to an alum the other day and told him we won 3 games much freshman year. He said they won three nattys while he was there. What a lucky bitch.
Dabo was asked and apparently, didn't think it was that big of a deal. It's just weird. (and disturbing too.)

Your Opinion, please...

To mark Saban's 10th anniversary, let me get your opinion. We can all agree (I assume) the majority of his Bama career is behind him. Regardless if he coaches another game, he is arguably the GOAT. (In my opinion, he is. What he has done in this era with the regulations he has to work under is unprecendeted.)

So the question: When he retires, what does the University name after him? A street being renamed has to be a given. Bryant Denny is kind of taken. Can't see them kicking Denny or adding Bryant Denny Saban Stadium. What else is there. Seems like most things are named. Denny Chimes. Mal Moore Athletic Facility, etc.

What do you think???

Thanks for the warm welcome MD.
I'm sorry... I thought my first post was long and rambling enough and didn't want to continue, but thanks for reading the whole thing. There are two good Fran stories and 1 Gilberry story I remember well. Fran 1: According to Closner the team (and apparently most coaches) literally found out Fran left through a letter he left in their lockers. (ANd if memory serves me, the letter was from the University, not even Fran!) When they showed up Jarret Johnson went ape shite. Tore pictures off the walls, broke them against the lockers. If it wasn't bolted down, it got broken and some things that were bolted got uprooted as well. They were so pissed because Fran preached 'stay and play. We are in this together' and then he bailed after the SWAT shirts, the Hold the Rope stuff, etc. 2) After Fran left I saw a car in front of Burke that said on the back window: "Fran, your heart's in Texas but your daughter's flower stays here." Someone posted his cell phone on the front door of the Corner Store. I called it, got his VM of course, but there was no denying it was his voice. Someone figured out how to hack it and said something like "You've reached Coach Fran. I'm the lying, low down dirty bastard that left UA for A&M. Blah, Blah, Blah. It was pretty classic. 3) Unrelated, but funny. I had public speaking with Gilberry. He told the story of him and his friend in high school. They both hurt their knees a couple days apart and decided to get surgery on the same day at the same place so they could rehab together. Long story short, the hospital did the wrong knee on each of them. WG hurt his left, the other guy hurt his right (or vice versa) and the hospital did WG's right and the other guy's left. We were all like "you sued, right?" And he was like "Naw man, we aint like that. It's all good. Honest mistake." Hard to believe...
Anyway. Sorry for the long post and sorry for the "cliffhanger." It wasn't intentional.

By the way, my freshman year, I remember seeing a nice replica of Dubose hanging from a tree on the quad on my way to an early class. Complete with headset, khakis, short sleeve shirt and tie. You pull that today and you are probably arrested... Good memories.

Hey Y'all,
This my first post. Wasn't sure where to make it, but this thread seemed fitting for me. I was at UA from 2000 to 2004. When I arrived, we were ranked No.3 and I was ready for a great 4(or 5) seasons. Freddie Millons returned that punt 71 yards for the TD and I thought... "Here we go!" Well... 4 coaches later and 5 of the worst consecutive seasons in Bama football history, I made it through without killing myself or anyone. I took a leak next to Mike Price in Baumhower's, got my hair cut with Fran at Don's. Good times indeed. I did have a class with Gilberry and JB Closner when Fran left and they had some interesting stories about the locker room when they got the news. Oh well... Thanks for everyone's contributions on SECR!
