Tennessee LB Coach William Inge Hospitalized With Personal Medical Issue

Tennessee linebackers coach William Inge has been hospitalized while dealing with a personal medical issue, the school announced Thursday.

“Tennessee linebackers coach William Inge has been in the hospital dealing with a personal medical issue,” Tennessee said in a statement. “Coach Inge and his family appreciate your prayers and support, and we ask that you respect their privacy at this time.”

Inge, 52, missed Tennessee’s win over Kennesaw State last weekend and will not be with the Volunteers for Saturday’s SEC matchup against Texas. Tennessee has not disclosed the specific nature of his illness.

Inge released a message Friday saying he is resting comfortably and continues to battle the illness.

“I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers. I am resting comfortably. I am fighting this illness just like our team fights on Saturdays on the field. I look forward to supporting our team and wish them well tomorrow. GBO.”

Inge is in his third season at Tennessee after joining Josh Heupel’s staff in 2024 following two seasons at Washington, where he served as associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

Tennessee hosts Texas on Saturday at Neyland Stadium.
