Just to give some perspective, if the deal goes through, dude is making just $500,000 less than what Nick Saban’s initial contract was at Alabama in 2007.

Insane. Will he be the highest paid assistant in football? Or does that go to Venables?

Pretty sure Venables "only" made $2.4 mil this year. Not sure what he is set to make next year, but I bet it's not > than $1 mil more than what he made this year.

$3.5 million for an assistant coach is insane...but then again, so is $2.5 million.

I'm glad he's staying, but this Monopoly money being perpetually thrown around just isn't sustainable.

Pay what you have to in order to stay on top. It's not hurting the team to pay him $3.5 million.

The new SEC tv contract that was just signed with ESPN will give each school plenty of new money to throw around.

A $1M/year raise for Sark is like "peanuts" to mega-wealthy boosters, and the revenue impact Sark provides is much > than what he's paid. We save a lot by hiring veteran coaches as analysts at intern pay while they collect substantial buyout income. We also don't pay buyouts to fire assistants. Instead Saban helps them get a new gig. We're good.

I wonder if you took all the contracts of his NFL picks he’s had and combined them into 1 pool of money how much it would be worth. Including their subsequent ones as well.

We should go in and encourage this rumor. Just to see them get all psyched up only to come crashing sown later.

True...yet they STILL continually raise ticket prices and TP donation requirements almost annually.

I just think the salaries have gotten completely out of control... even at a time when they're cutting staff and the salaries of the "little people" in the athletic department.

I emotionally agree, however, we have saved so much by not paying stupid taxes. The Barn just spent 21 Million to pay someone to coach another team. UT is the king of stupid tax, Butch got paid by UT for three years to coach for their biggest rival (us). USC(w), UF, LSU, A&M, Arky, UM, State, MU all paying millions in stupid tax. Hell the eggheads at Vandy just stroked around a 9 Million dollar check to Mason.

uab coach told his players last night he is staying at uab.
The barn wanted him to keep Steele and others on the defensive staff. Bill Clark said no thanks.

Auburn being told to screw themselves by the coach at UAB has to be a wakeup call for their dumbass boosters. If if isn't then they're going to hire Steele.

So is that a Sunbelt coach and a cusa coach that turned them down?
