Was watching a highlight reaction and it reminded me of just how much times have changed

Dude was talking about how if you have Alabama’s 4 headed monster at WR from the past 3 years, you’re basically in heaven, there’s no way you can screw it up, even if you’re a shitty QB. He kind of redacted his statement saying:

“Well Alabama always has great QBs anyway so it doesn’t matter.”

Makes me remember the good ole days of Nick Saban’s first couple of lame duck statues in the pocket. JPW, Greg McElroy, McTat and (after Blake) Coker.

Memories are short these days.

You go from “the dynasty is dead!” to “Bama has ruined college football!” in a year or two.

Coker was basically a linebacker playing QB. Mentality wise at least.

I’m not sure how you consider a guy about to spend his 8th year in the league anything other than an exceptional QB. As far as being a statue, he was as if not more mobile than Mac.

And he had his success without multiple first round NFL receivers.

McCarron threw to guys like Marquis Maze, Darius Hanks, Kevin Norwood, Kenny Bell, Brandon Gibson, Brad Smelley, and DeAndrew White. He did have Amari Cooper in his junior and senior years, but that was the only receiver he ever played with who went in the first round. Despite that, he put up some very impressive numbers and finished second in the Heisman race his senior year.

Y'all need to put some respect on Norwood's name. Dude was fricking money.

Whenever the passing game wasn't working, Kevin Norwood was always there to save the day.

The guy probably lives rent free in LSU fans heads. He absolutely tortured them.

3 out of those 4 won titles... Give me a guy like Coker any day over someone that's mobile but can't get the ball into his playmaker's hands.

GMAC was least mobile of that group and he had his moments tip toing to championships.

JPW was least talented but maybe the toughest (arguable Coker). He took some nasty hits and would turn his helmet around straight and rejoin the huddle.

McCarron is STILL on NFL rosters, wtf?

All of those QBs played well to exceedingly well within what they were asked to do. Doesn't feel right to shite on them like they were interchangeable, talentless cogs who had no impact to team success.

Mobility is overrated compared to football IQ, release, pocket awareness, accuracy, and decision making. Most all Saban QBs (regardless of philosophy) excelled in those areas. Were they all top tier NFL prospects, no. But, they were tremendous college athletes.

No disrespect intended. Norwood was my favorite receiver from that era due to how clutch he was at the end of 2011 and throughout 2012. I'm just saying that, talent-wise, McCarron's receivers were inferior to those Tagovailoa, Jones, and even 2016 Jalen Hurts played with. Despite this deficiency, McCarron put up better stats than any Alabama QB that came before him.

Outside Amari Cooper at least.

I’d argue Cooper, discounting pros, was better in college than every one of Alabama’s recent receivers except Smith.

Falcons signed him to a 1 year $1.2 million deal for this season. Threw in something like a $150k signing bonus to boot.

Feleipe Franks is the only other QB on their roster, so unless they make a trade or pick up some free agent, AJ is next man up behind Ryan.

Ryan's been very resilient but the Falcons suck. I'd say the chances AJ gets some playing time this year are pretty high.

I'm tracking. Poorly written on my part. The WTF was intended for his list of "meh" Bama QBs when AJ has been in the league for 8 yrs. Long term backup is still a good career achievement

Fellas, y'all are forgetting that Saban played a very different brand of offense back then. Hell, he wouldn't have let Joe fricking Namath open the game up!
It's hard for even an elite QB when an arm, leg, and a playbook are tied behind their back!

There ain't a Bama QB during the Saban era that wants to see Jacob Coker on the basketball court. I can promise you that. Always thought it was hilarious so many bird brains thinking he wasn't athletic.

This is as athletic as any play Hurts, Tua, or anyone else has made as QB at Alabama.

Did you ever see the video of the quarterbacks playing the receivers in basketball when Coker was there? They absolutely schooled the WR's. Coker is one of my all-time favorites. Tough as nails and from Bama.
