A black dude that worked with my dad found a female German shepherd on a job site and decided to keep her because he had a male at home.
He named her Dixie. I guess he didn't know that word was "charged."
Oh yeah, his male was named Rebel.

When the rest of the world hears the name "Alabama" you know what they think? It ain't good. And it's for the same reason Dixie evokes those emotions. So.........what do we do there?
You can really expand that to the American South in general. Lots of people simply equate love of the South with a belief in Lost Cause mythology even if literally nothing points to it. It's bizarre, and leads to this kind of nonsense. The South is the only part of the country it is socially unacceptable to be proud of being from.

I would think last Saturday when Milroe’s opportunity came in the game to lead Bama to a victory, but this is just my best guess. Not one time did the word Dixie ever cross his mind or what it means or stands for or any other BS like that. And it probably never did when he decided to be a student athlete at the capstone.
I would think Milroe and the rest of his teammates are focused on being the best they can be at their craft and having the opportunity to get a top tier education and being successful after they leave the university.
All these ppl are trying to do is stir shite anyway they can. And they especially try and use highly successful ppl and universities like Alabama to make their point. The timing of this doesn’t surprise me though.

I'll do you one better.
Bryce Young is from California. Do you think he gives a shite the word Dixie is in our fight song? Do you think he cares we sing Dixieland Delight?
Hell no.
The next time you are in Bryant-Denny and they fire up Dixieland take a look around. Everyone is singing it regardless of race. Well, not the opposing fans.
Milroe is at least from Texas. They think they are Southerners over here.

Hell no… BY making bank$$$$. He’s the first QB at Bama to win that trophy. He’s signing Dixieland Delight all the way to the bank. Mom and Dad is too…

About 10-15 years ago I had a solution for this, via corporate sponsorship. Unfortunately my childhood neighbor's grandparents have since sold off their grocery stores... but picking up winn dixie right now would be hysterical.

Time to tell the spoiled kids...NO. Next thing you know they will want the State to change its' name because of its' past. I'm very serious.

If you got time to argue about "Dixie" on this board why don't you find time to start doing your damn job as a mod
Why would he bother to post an unpopular opinion on the board if he's just gonna get super butthurt when people don't agree?

He went straight for "there's no point in even debating this because you wouldn't understand". I've never seen anyone resort to it that quickly

What I don't understand is him telling me to take my position to the Political board when this discussion is wholeheartedly political in nature.

“Heart of Dixie” is on every Alabama license plate. It’s not as pronounced as it used to be, but it’s still there.

Yep sorry Winn Dixie, you’re about to get woke. How does Winn Bama sound? I kinda like it to be honest.
Shhh, don’t tell them about the license plate, they just changed them again.

Sure, that’s exactly what English band Dire Straits is referencing in their songs, or what people around the world think about when they hear Dixieland Jazz. This should be canceled too.

There will always be more power in transforming the context around a word vs. merely getting rid of it.
They didn't change the name of Germany or NASCAR despite their histories. They have reformed themselves and people don't associate past hatred with those words today. If anything they've gone to the other degree.
The South cannot get past its history until people allow it. There is no cogent argument for removing the word "Dixie" unless it is in fact still being used in a derogatory manner. It is unfortunate that other parts of the country do not have to answer for their racist histories, but there are plenty of arguments to be made that the South has become more open to people of all backgrounds, and it has been that way for longer than people want to admit.

That's definitely what non-southernerns don't understand. If you exclude religion, Alabama is one of the most diverse states in the country. People in Oregon want to act like they are in a progressive bastion while the state is almost as white as Vermont.

This is true and also the education system has really done a disservice to people.
Georgia had a state flag change because of a supposed Confederate Flag connection. Hopefully everyone knows the Battle Flag commonly called the Confederate Flag was never an official flag. The flag Georgia switched to is literally the Stars and Bars, the official Confederate Flag. People voted on this mind you.
The big picture of all of this, is history teaches lessons. You cannot apply todays standards to the past. Context of historical actions is incredibly important. Every country has done things they aren’t proud of, learn from it and move on. Not damn future generations who had nothing to do with it.
Boz’s .10 cents.
