One of my biggest issues with the perpetually aggrieved, professional victim class is the laziness. Like, if you’ve decided your contribution to society is going to be bitching about completely benign things like this, do it right. Put some effort into it. Take “Dixieland Delight” for example.
- Song title = Dixie = racism
- References to sex in a vehicle = rape culture
- Relationship referenced is straight = not inclusive
- Lyrics include reference to “Heaven” = religious discrimination
- References to hard work = ableism
Take some pride in your work, guys.

I mean, isn't "Dixie" just a way of referencing the South? This is like demanding that libraries stop carrying A Confederacy of Dunces because the word Confederacy is in the title. Some language has one meaning and one meaning only. Most carries different meanings depending on context. Nothing about the context of how "Dixie" is used in Alabama's fight song suggests it means anything other than "the South".
Sounds racist

I feel like this is due to the influx of out of state enrollment most certainly. Maybe not, since this is something involving a unique to Alabama circumstance, but quite honestly it certainly feels that way. A lot of western and northern influence in the student body.

People never realize that to do something like this gives power to the word that it never had before. Every word that people claim to be embarrassed or upset by can be negated by taking the power from the word and refusing to let a word have a meaning.
Dixie means the south to most, but some claim it offends them because of racism. Most of the people who are racists probably haven't thought of using Dixie in that way, but they certainly will now. Because a group has said it bothers them.
"Here, take some bullets for your gun..... He's shooting at me!!!"
It happens with curse words all the time. The f word used to be the worst word you can say, now it is common place. The c word for women is supposed to be incredibly offensive, except you have every other comedian dropping it for shock value, and it too will lose its potency over the next few years. The punisher shirts, no one really cared who was wearing them until a group started yelling about it. As soon as they did, the sales on those shirts went through the roof. One side got offended by whatever they could find to be offended with and the other was more than happy to offend.
But people don't want to ignore stuff like that and refuse to let it bother them. Instead they yell that something upsets them and here come 10 more to egg them on using the exact thing they were complaining about. Its ridiculous.

Liberals won’t be happy until they get every single thing that offends them changed and then they STILL won’t be happy

Sad thing is the people that don’t have a problem with things won’t go to the same measures and suspend attendance, etc. to combat it. They just rollover and take it

These are the same people who misidentify the Confederate Flag constantly and it’s painful

I've had mixed feelings about this. There is a lot of controversy surrounding the history of the word Dixie and none of it is really clear. A lot of people will talk about the 10 cent price from the Louisiana bank or whatever, but apparently it doesn't really hold up. The other two possible sources are a children's game (first recorded in New York of all places) that seems to take it from the Mason Dixion line, and minstrel shows which seems to take it from that as well. However, it's use broadened during the Civil War due to the song, which originally was written for minstrel shows and then became the anthem for the slave state of the Confederacy.
While people use it today without any racist intent, it's certainly reasonable for people to have a negative reaction to it and that's not a good look for a national recruiting brand in my opinion.
That being said, I still play Dixieland Delight as there is no racist intent of its use. I am not sure I'd play it at an open mic or something though as I wouldn't want it taken the wrong way.
There is no denying that there is a racist history associated with the word, however, in its modern sense I haven't come across a racist use of it.

They may stand their ground on this one despite the pressure. Would be a breath of fresh air to see someone stand up to these pussies.

I would be floored if this movement wasn't 100% faculty

Heart of Dixie is still on AL license plates.

Most of you would consider me "damn libral" but people are dumb on both sides. And this is dumb. "Dixie" just means the South. There's no reason to ban the South. It's a place.

If I am being honest "Dixie" is kind of a charged word.....it's got some negative connotations from the past like it or not. In this day and age people are going to get triggered. I can see it both ways.
Don't give a shite if it stays or goes. Not a hill worth dying on.

So can I, and 5 years ago I probably would have said "you know, it's reasonable to want that, it doesn't mean that much to me and it clearly does to them so I'm cool with changing it."
Now? After the last 5 years of this sort of whiney bullshite about every single possible thing in existence and knowing that there is absolutely no end in sight because it'll just be on to the next thing? Fvck off. The answer is no. Deal with it.

See I don't look at it that way anymore. I look at it very simply.
"I received your request. I deny your request."
No long discussion. No argument. No bigger learning experience. Request, answer. Moving on. I'm not even saying that's the right attitude to have (it probably is not), but that's where I am.
