I have no issues with Rees. He should be able to use the talent he has in productive ways (unlike Boob). OC isn't that hard with our roster

we are mother fricking Alabama. Why should we hire coordinators with hope and pray potential instead of proven winners? I mean wtf really when you think about it. Extremely frustrating and unenthusiastic. I loved sark and Kiffin. But Saban has hired some terrible OC no doubt

Yet, we've won a bunch of championships with these OCs. We came a quarter away from winning one with Bill O'Brien.

And Kiffin and Sark were certainly not viewed as some "homerun hires" for us when they hired.

The chicken little attitude of Bama fans is so lame. Worst part about this fanbase.

I agree, it's getting ridiculous around here. People pissed and moaned all of O'Brien's tenure about how we didn't need to go get an NFL guy, we needed to go back to the college game to find a guy. Nick Saban is trying to do that and folks still piss and moan. There's no pleasing some of you.

I think they played the majority of this year without their starting QB too. Could be wrong on that

There seems to be a lot of hand wringing over Tommy Rees. There isn't a single guy on the planet that would have 100% of fans happy. There is always going to be a subsection of people that hate a hire no matter what. I think Rees is a perfectly reasonable hire and is much more likely to be a great hire than a poor one.

The DC search was always a bigger deal imo. Hopefully Grantham isn't the move there, because that doesn't inspire a ton of confidence for me.

They did, and he was a new starter. Came back for the bowl game vs Carolina and they had a huge day.

I'm intrigued by him. I like some of the in the weeds stuff I've read. There are certainly some things that make you cringe from the last 3 years, too. Truly just going to have to wait on see.

I like Rees. He is only 30 and full of energy. Already getting a look at one of the top programs in the country and probably an OC hire if he pans out, which I think he will, will be around until Saban retires. He could really build his resume here at UA.

what he did at ND

One interesting thing that I'm not really seeing mentioned is that we played them in 2020, when Rees was in his first season as OC. (That was the Rose Bowl semifinal that we won 31-14.)

I only bring it up because it reminds me of playing Kiffin in 2009 (Rocky Block), and then hiring him in early 2014.

There are other family connections/relationships in play at Alabama in this instance, but I also have to wonder if Saban notes certain opposing staff members that he runs across who present interesting concepts or gameplan in such a way that makes him take particular notice.

That is, maybe this guy did something that we didn't expect, or took advantage of something that we didn't recognize beforehand. Obviously we won handily, but perhaps what he tried to do somehow stood out.

I just remember going into that game feeling like they had no shot because they had zero scary weapons outside. And that's basically how it played out.

Applewhite only had one season at Rice before joining Alabama as Co-OC. Not sure that is a fair comparison.

But i understand your point

Yeah, they really had no business being in that game, but I do vaguely recall feeling like we should've performed better (or that we shut it down early once we got a lead).

Looking at the box score, they matched us on first downs, had only 62 fewer total yards, and matched us on rushing yardage. Ian Book was 27/39 and threw one pick.

Mac, Najee, and DeVonta destroyed them on the other side of the ball, but offensively for ND there was nothing that really stands out as being terrible.

Yep - they did all they could, they just didn't have the horses. And it also is another testament to the fact that Brian Kelly is a really solid head coach.

My neighbor is on the UNC staff and he mentioned it on his way to campus this morning when we were at the mailboxes. Said rumor was Hartman may follow Rees and why he transferred to ND to play for Rees. Again I was asking if a possibility or if anyone heard anything.

I read that Rees and Hartman have been family friends their entire lives and that is exactly why he transferred to ND. It wouldnt surprise me at all to see Hartman in T-town. I would also be stoked. He is a baller.

There is no guarantee that Hartman would start for us though. Seems like he's a shoe-in to start at ND.

Yeah, seems like a huge gamble to make when you're a grad transfer. Especially if he wouldn't be able to transfer until after Spring football.
