Listen I know, I am just really needing some good news after such a disappointing year. Maybe a little re-assurance in saint Nick after letting Golding and BOB overstay their welcomes.

What a disappointment. I was so stoked to get rid of the clowns we had and now I am concerned we arent going to even be able to replace them. Its hard to figure how you turn down the GOAT if he wants you.
1. It's a joke to think Saban can't hire an OC, stop the melt.
2. He didn't fly across the country to turn down the job in person, especially after getting two raises at his current school within a couple of months. Obviously he wasn't a fit.
3.BOL is already reporting multiple people interviewed for the position yesterday and going to continue this week, no additional names were given.

Why do you think I was disagreeing with your post?
You quoted me. Usually when people quote somebody and say something passive aggressive (like you do often) it is easily assumed you're speaking to the person you quoted

not the least of which is the two biggest I told you so's/y'all ridiculed me back when I said this, on the board going back and forth.
There she goes.

I find it really hard to believe the Grubb flew from Seattle to Tuscaloosa, interviewed for the job, was good enough to get an offer from Saban, and then just said no thanks.

Or...sometimes coaches want the experience of the interview. Not saying there wasn't mutual interest, but Grubbs is still a newcomer, who probably has aspirations to be a HC. He has Penix coming back and will likely produce gawdy numbers again. Staying at Washington is probably the safer choice instead of dealing with a new QB here at Alabama. Interviewing w/ CNS shows he is "in demand" and offers a lot of street cred.

You will get Derek Dooley and you will like it

Being successful at Washington as OC probably lands you a solid start as a HC somewhere. Being a successful at Alabama as OC probably lands you a good/very good HC job.
Could be wrong, but I don't think you risk upsetting UW by flying across the across just to practice interviewing and wasting everyone's time. It's pretty much all speculation at the moment but I highly doubt he just interviewed for fun or had an actual offer and turned it down. IMO, his name leaked and didn't like that and when Saban said he's still interviewing others he saved face and returned to UW. We'll see what we find out.

Well, his brand just went up for making the trip.
He'll get another year with Penix, Jr and likely at the top of a lot of interview lists afterward.

I agree. Also, I am skittish about coordinators who worked under head coaches who were very good coordinators on the same side of the ball. Example, Schumann and Smart. How much of the Washington offensive success is due to Grubb?
Also, Grubb didn't develop Penix. DeBoer developed Penix at Indiana.
So, what has Grubb done independent of DeBoer?

This seems like a classic case of a guy who thought he had the job and the interview was a formality. Then, when he’s told there are more interviews happening he claims he’s was never really interested in the first place.

Did you watch Alabama football for the last two years?
Our receivers run into each other multiple times a game.
We had zero identity and our best chance to win the games were having our other worldly QB adlib. I don't think that Saban cant hire and OC, I think he is too damn stubborn for his own good sometimes. I also think that I have become emotionally vested in this and maybe that's a me problem, but i'm in it now.

I don't think DeBoer goes to bat to the tune of $2mil per year(highest paid assistant in UW history) if he isn't convinced himself of what Grubb brings.
Would have been a homerun hire, and it may still be, yet.
Saban once said very adamantly that he wasn't coaching at Bama.
Time will tell.
Saban will make 2 x great coordinator hires in the end. Very excited that Golding is gone, so the rest of it is all just extra.

I don’t disagree with the rest of what you said but you do know that was just him being modest right? The quote I believe is “You’ve hired a shite coach but no one will out recruit me.”

That is a post-hire comment.
I'm referencing when he was still with the Dolphins and stated, "I guess I have to say it," Saban said. "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach."

So who are these others being interviewed? Strange none of those names have leaked, especially if these were all in person interviews and people are flying in.

Forget what I said. I misread your post. I now officially agree with your entire post.

Well we don’t know that either. Maybe Saban wanted to interview all candidates and then select and Washington OC is not willing to wait especially when he would have to return to Washington and wait on decision after getting a raise from Washington. No one will ever know why it fell through.
Posted on 1/31/23 at 1:09 pm to labamafan
I tend to wonder Saban has a certain type of offense he wants ran...Some very innovative OCs don't want to be placed within a box and told this is the offense you will run. I, for one, am not thrilled with the shotgun set pro offense we run. Even at the goal-line. But thats all hypothetical. Have no idea what Saban is looking for.
