If he could just screen for JD or JQ and then roll to the basket while being very tall and catch alley oops he should be fine.
It sounds like a little thing, but I don’t think many long-term Alabama basketball fans would underestimate the importance of a big man having good hands. One of the scouting reports said he did so I’m just going to go with that.

Yeah, but you just listed 6 guys for a team that only plays one big at a time. I'm not overly concerned that we won't have a couple that can play well. We're in better shape there next year than we were for most of this year.

One of the main question with Oats was if he would be able to recruit at high level. I would say the answer is a resounding yes.
Agreed and he has basically shut the door on that question
- Can he sign an elite player in our own backyard? YES
- Can he recruit nationally/internationally at an elite level? YES
I think my concern (and most of ours) was that he'd sign mid-major/low hi-major level kids who fit his scheme but weren't great athletes.
He's basically signing those same types of players (ones he wants in his system), but he signing Top 100 level versions of them.

Our post play is going to be the big question mark. Gary is a known commodity at this point, though a bit undersized. Which means we'll need heavy minutes from 2 of Tchikou, Bediako, KAH, Rojas and Wilson. If we could get Gurley for Rojas we'd be golden even if a couple of those guys didn't pan out.
Tchikou and Wilson are gonna be our main 2 bigs next year. If we get Gurley he will be also...if you wanna classify him as a big

But they lost in their Big 12 tournament, well after their Covid pause.

Class is up to #3 on 247. Excited for the program. Looking like another fun year ahead.

The way some are describing Bedaiko and Tchikou and are potential bigs for next year you would think we're returning Moussa Gueye and Carl Engstrom next year.
Is Bedaiko THAT uncoordinated and unskilled as to not be an offensive threat next season? The same with Tchikou. The way some talk you'd think he's no better than Gueye and Engstrom.

We didn't recruit Wilson as a Big, he said the staff sees him playing the Herb Jones role. I am guessing this was the role that Herb played last year before he moved to more of a PG role this year.
Bediako will definitely be one of our top two bigs as far as minutes next year unless he gets hurt.

Yea everything I've read on Wilson is that his potential as a defensive player is through the roof, which is fantastic to hear.

247Sports’ national basketball director Eric Bossi shares his thoughts on UA’s newest pledge:
LINK ]![]()
"Nate Oats and Alabama are already enjoying the fruits of their SEC Championship season as they continue to build the program into a national power. The addition of top 30 big man Charles Bediako is the latest in a series of big moves on the recruiting trail.
"By adding Bediako, Alabama now has a top three class and more importantly than that they've added a little something they don't yet have. Likely a five man in the SEC, Bediako is long, can run and does a nice job on the glass. He doesn't need a lot of touches to be productive on the perimeter and has an SEC ready frame. He's a nice balance to a high flying point like JD Davison, a do-it-all wing in Jusaun Holt and a freaky athletic juco big man in Langston Wilson.
"The way Alabama is capable of putting athletes at all positions and stretching the floor with shooters, space should be opened for Bediako on the interior. Because he can run, he'll fit right in when they decide to go small and his addition should allow Oats and his staff added flexibility on both the offensive and defensive ends."

There is a lot of poo-pooing Bediako's offensive ability, which undeniably needs some work, but the guy is a 5-star for a reason.
Juwan Gary couldn't really shoot a lick this year, and yet he became a fan favorite and regular contributor for his defense, rebounding, hustle, etc. playing the 5 while extremely undersized at only 6'6.
Now think about what it would mean to have a 7-foot Juwan Gary.

That's a pretty important piece. A guy who is a threat on the pick and roll to dunk, can clean up the glass and be a threat to block anything at the rim is a guy who can play in our offense - even if he isn't a huge outside threat.

Strictly talking about on the court stuff and not leadership, is it crazy to think that Primo, Shack, Ellis, and Davidson will very competently replace just about everything Petty and Herb gave us? JD and Shack are on the smaller side so I am a little concerned about losing the size of those guys and their versatility in the lineup. But you could argue that we'll improve in offensive transition and attacking the basket

I trust the staff, they have been recruiting Bediako hard for over a year, they tried to get him to reclassify to last years class. They obviously think he will be a good fit.

The Hawks are a pretty wide open run and gun, 3 point oriented offense. Clint Capela has arguably been our best player this season. He doesn't do anything but rebound, block shots and dunk oops off of PnR from Trae. He did similar work in Houston.
Long athletic guys like that are great fits in spread the floor, high tempo teams. The only thing there is, as noted earlier, you really can't afford to have another non-outside threat on the floor at the same time.
