Yall gotta stop with the Wrightsell hype. He is coming off an achilles and a season ending knee injury the year before. I hope he is able to contribute in a big way. But to expect him to be a top threat is foolish. He is not going to be anything more than a spot up shooter.

I mean wasn’t he pretty much just that already? Maybe his defense takes a step back

Yeah I’ve given up on trying to calm peoples expectations on Wrightsell. He might be back by SEC play and he will be the 9th guy in the rotation at best.

Achilles tears just aren’t something you come back from very well in basketball.

Philon just needs a consistent outside game to open up the dribble drive and he’s a lottery/AA guy.

I believe that Wrightsell and Mallette have all-SEC upside and if someone ever convinces Holloway to play even average defense he becomes an elite guy as well.

Zero concerns about our backcourt now.

Only guys I can think of that were even 50% of their former selves were Kobe and Durant, and they both still dropped off.

Oats just said 2 weeks ago that his injury was concerning but the trainers say Wrightsell is way ahead of schedule and they expect him back for the first game. Said he was already jumping.

Only question for me is who replaces big Nelly as the bust arse hustle guy who gets everyone pumped up with his enthusiasm, energy and effort? I think we will miss Grant’s impact from that perspective more than people realize and it will be hard to replace. Poster child for Oats hard hat guy. Hell, he’s hustled himself an NBA draft slot, possibly even late 1st round. I want to clone that guy because I don’t think we replace him and I don’t see anyone on the roster that can even attempt it.

His minutes will come down to rim protection. Sherrell's potential offensively isn't in question, but he has to be a very reliable rim protector. He made good strides late in the year but if you drag him away from the basket (high ball screens and dribble hand offs) he struggles to recover. That's not being overly critical, it's just the reality of what I interpreted as his greatest weakness last year and a big part of why his minutes were what they were. And that's not to say he won't, Bediako made huge strides defensively in his 2nd year and really became the best defensive center in the SEC by the time conference play began his sophomore year. He absolutely humiliated the returning NCAA player of the year and from that point it was on.

Yep, agree with all of this. It’s easy for freshmen big men to look lost defensively, but Bediako is a perfect example of the leap they can take when they figure it out.

Sherrell might not have that high a ceiling defensively, but he’s also clearly got more offensive potential.

All these Wrightsell starting lineups seem super optimistic. It would be great if he was a solid bench contributor.

I fully expect Philon and Holloway to play the most minutes of all the guards, whether Holloway starts or not. Those two probably lead the team in minutes and scoring, although I guess Bethea is a wild card (and maybe Wrightsell, but again that seems optimistic to me).

My bet is Philon. He was the most competitive guy on the team last year.

This. Kobe actually fell way off, but he was in his victory lap tour so people mostly ignored it. He had developed a great post game which helped.

Durant could play til he’s 60 years old because he doesn’t jump. His length and shot are otherworldly.

It just isn’t an injury guys come back from the same.

Celtics have a lot to ponder because they don't have a ton of roster flexibility right over the horizon and their franchise cornerstone, Jayson Tatum, just had an achilles injury. Tough break for the poor ol' Boston Celtics. I don't know how they'll recover from this...

But seriously, injuries like this can change careers and franchises...

I'm not stopping with the Latrell Wrightsell Jr hype because you and many others seem to forget the IMPACT this guy has.

He's a RUN STOPPER AND A RUN STARTER! Best shooter in the SEC!

Let's talk about his injuries...

Yes, he had an Achilles injury last season...Aaron Rodgers had one to and he moved well the following season and he's dang near FIFTY! Latrell Wrightsell Jr. is already moving pretty good. He will be ready by the start of the season and I expect him to be moving even better by then. Some of y'all need to realize this isn't the early 2000's anymore.

When did he have a season ending knee injury?

He will be the X FACTOR once again.

I’m surprised and impressed with how well Chucky knows Alabama basketball. Especially for being a low down dirty snitch Vol.

Almost like it was a rehearsed bit. But, it was clearly sanctioned by Oats for exposure.

True. But I’ll allow it. I was getting fired up because he was getting fired up
