A dad being indicted for financial crimes in the NIL era is not encouraging.

I don't know anything about the kid. I just thought it was interesting because Bol Bowen retweeted it

If the numbers they’re talking about are true I’m glad we didn’t get him,
The owner of the Utah Jazz is buying players for BYU. He paid Dybantsa $7 million+. No way we pay that. Wright supposedly got $3.5 million. No way either does any legitimate work for that money. The House settlement is supposed to require accounting for all NIL money. We'll see.

I mean it’s not even a minor league / major league comparison anymore because at the high P4 level these guys are now making more per year in college than they would the pros.
But in MLB the guys cutting the checks make money based on gate, parking, TV deals etc.
With these NIL deals there’s no revenue captured as a result of the salary paid.
I just don’t see how the model is sustainable regardless of who is benefitting in the short term from on the field success.
Our entire collegiate system from academics to tuition to job placement to athletics needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

I'm pretty sure that big changes are coming which is why talking about NIL funding into the future and not next couple of seasons is kind of futile.
It's just difficult since it's just been a free for all, by the seat of your pants money grab by everyone involved with no big picture planning for so long.

If they (Philon and Reid) both stay Bama could have a very good if not lockdown D for the end of the game if they need a few stops, with Bethea (big, strong and fearless - massive upgrade over Sears), Philon (good, athletic defender who will likely get better), Reid (athletic good-great defender), Sherell (solid, with good strength and size) and Bowen (similar to Grant, though probably not as disruptive, very long arms).
This would make Alabama a legitimate national contender. (Mo, who was a good individual defender (along with other good traits), was a bad team defender. Simply can’t have that and be close to optimal.)
Will the Alabama NIL contingent come through? Someone asked why would Reid portal? I think most know the answer: money.

By 2025 standards, that's actually relatively "normal" behavior. But, yeah... it's absolutely pathetic.

What can government do? The name alone NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) infers you are paying these guys for their value as a commodity and not for the amount of work they are doing. The jackasses in Washington will waste countless hours of posturing, but they know they can't legally tell someone they can't accept money.

Sounds like Rylan Griffin coming back to Bama is picking up steam. Good news is we’d get him cheap, bad news is he’s probably a downgrade over every one who has left the team this offseason. Y’all want him back or someone else to fill that spot?

You are right about that. I was thinking in terms of their doing ads for businesses. Supposedly the House settlement will require documentation of services to receive NIL pay. We’ll see.

I'm not thrilled about him coming back and would rather some fresh blood considering we all know what his game consists of.
With that said, if accepting RG means LP & Reid returns, then I would be more in favor of it I suppose.

Rylan supposedly is visiting this weekend, so I’d imagine it happens. I’d definitely pass, but Nate has earned the benefit of the doubt putting together a roster. I think the key right now is Philon and Reid. If they return, I think we can still be very good. If they don’t, not quite sure what this thing looks like right now.

I'll take Rylan Griffen back in a heartbeat. He made the wrong decision by leaving but we all probably would've done the same thing at his age for a big sum of money.
Rylan fits our system to a tee and he's one of those guys who can shoot and defend at a high level.
He really gets going in big games at Coleman Coliseum!
