I don’t think the Omoruyi / Stevenson / Nelson combo will see much time together until and unless Nelson shows he can guard athletic perimeter guys.
Agreed. I think the biggest thing with this roster is the flexibility it gives us. Against a team that struggles guarding the perimeter, you can go Sears, Wrightsell, Youngblood, Stevenson, Omoruyi. Against a more physical squad like Tennessee or Miss State you can go Sears, Youngblood, Reid, Nelson, Omoruyi and match that physicality without giving up shooting.

I think we'll see a good bit of Holloway too. His vision is ELITE; it's easily his best trait. A high ball screen action with Holloway and Omoruyi, plus 3 other shooters spaced appropriately (Sears, Wrightsell, Stevenson for example) would be damn near undefendable, particularly if Holloway makes some progress on his finishing at the rim.

Might be rehashing my prior post but I think Stevenson is coming in for Nelson at 4 when Nelson goes to the bench . I could see Nelson and Stevenson playing together in small lineups with each having the versatility to be 4 or 5. I think the days of Nelson or Stevenson playing big wing are over with Reid on campus. Reid is tailor made to be an athletic combo forward.

I thought Bama would lose Stevenson or Mo D or both, but I was wrong. I thought they would leave because I thought they would want more playing time and roles.

I completely forgot about Mo D in my rotation spitball. LMAO. We so rich, folks.

Chris Youngblood is going to end up being one of the biggest additions by the end of the season. He’s going to play minutes.
I think it's crazy how Johnell Davis is regularly ranked as a top 2-3 transfer and Youngblood is usually #60+, even though they were Co AAC POY. I'm not knocking Davis. But i think Youngblood has been one of the most underrated transfers this year. USF fans absolutely loved him. And he fits our style perfectly. He's also strong as hell, so we're going to be able to handle much more physical teams.

I hate how long it takes for them to update the roster on rolltide dot com.

Should I print off Murphy's initial Clifford tweet and get he and Cliff to sign it at the camp on Saturday? I'm leaning heavily toward doing this.

I think he’d think that was funny and unique. I’d do it.

#1 Alabama, top 20 Ole Miss, and unranked Kentucky. Welcome to 2024 SEC basketball.

I love having a team good enough to be considered #1. I hate being considered #1 before late season.

My guess on the rotation:

Sears / Holloway / Philon
Youngblood / Wrightsell / Mallette
Wrightsell / Mallette / Reid / Dioubate
Nelson / Stevenson / Sherrill / Reid / Dioubate
Omoruyi / Nelson / Stevenson / Sherrill

Alright, added Mo D into the mix. I think it is possible that Reid and Mo D end up splitting minutes in that big wing/combo forward role.

Youngblood, Wrightsell, and Mallette are really flexible between 2 and 3. Lots of combinations possible there but 3 guard is likely the typical starting lineup. Reid and Mo D will be in the mix at 3 sometimes but could see some minutes at 4 due to matchup or foul trouble.

The 4 and 5 depth is exceptional after kinda duct tape and super gluing a front court together last year. Lots of versatility on paper. A few of the big bodies are not going to get victimized when switching everything because they have above average athleticism for their size.

1 is the biggest question mark on depth. Holloway had a very poor SEC schedule at Auburn but his style is prototypical for what Oats wants from a point guard. I tend to believe getting to come in off the bench and run an offense and make decisions with the ball in his hands is exactly what Alabama will need from him and suits him better than throwing it into the post and moving off the ball.

The player to keep an eye on is going to be Sherrell. If he develops nicely and is ready to play rotational minutes in November, that's going to help avoid having to play Grant and Stevenson too much at the 5. It'll still happen with some of our lineups because that's just the nature of our system and the game but if Sherrell can provide 10-12 minutes that would be pretty huge.

Also agree with the sentiment regarding Youngblood, I think he's pretty underrated and that's probably due to so much attention going towards Cliff's transfer recruitment. I think he's a clear upgrade over Griffen.

Totally agree. Sherrell is probably the more important incoming freshmen in terms of filling a niche. Reid is the better prospect but his roles mean it'd just be icing on the cake if he can't be kept off the court. Sherrell is ideally the real backup center even though Nelson probably ends up playing more minutes there as a stretch 5.

Interesting comment in here from Oats:

"I'm gonna have three guys that I hired out of the NBA on staff this coming year."

It sounds like Alabama's final assistant coach hire will come from the NBA, joining Charlie Henry and Ryan Pannone as the third NBA hire in Oats' tenure.
