Back on shooting? He doesn't even look to score. As for playing "winning Basketball", how'd that work out?

Does not matter about the numbers...what matters is if your playing winning basketball and both did.

Herb Jones used to get talked about the same way. He never cared about the numbers.

There is no individual blame tonight. This is who this team is. They suck at every detail oriented thing that exists in basketball. Every single one of them. They commit every cardinal sin of basketball. Live ball turnovers, bad fouls, team defense goofs, mental lapses, all of it.

They are an awful team to root for and watch play 40 minutes, and they don't seem to realize it or seem very interested in fixing it.

Bama 2021-22

And I'll probably be 12 beers deep at a music festival during next week's game, so it's been a good one, y'all.

the Iona debacle

The thing that bothered me about the Iona game was that it seemed one coach made adjustments after the game last year and one didn't. I excused it on the roster differences but now not so sure.

The numbers in the final score damn sure DO matter.

Scoring is everything to some folks but not too me. Those freshman played good ball tonight and I am happy Holt got through whatever it was.

Keep maturing young man!

JD has turned the ball over at a rate that is literally among the 2-3 worst in the SEC in the last decade. He has not had a good season. He had 4 potential turnovers tonight where the ball was tipped and magically did not go to the other team. His court awareness is near zero.

Enough about JD and how everyone is being mean about him. He's been bad mostly sprinkled with some good. Maybe he comes back and gets better. That'd be great. In all likelihood he leaves for pro ball and we becomes a trivia answer someday about that highly recruited guy who was here 1 year and didn't do much.

Passink still saying we have hope to make make a run in the NCAA tournament! Hahaha. He’s using last years UCLA team as an example. Guess he has to stay being a homer when he knows this team is going nowhere.

Holt is a Division 2 player. He is 2-19 from three this year. That is 10.5 freaking percent! He has only made 3 other shots this year - 2 dunks (one tonight) and a putback tonight. And he shot 3-5 from the line so a 60% shooter from there.
Herb Jones shot worse than that from 3 his junior year and didn’t exactly light it up his freshman season.. Holt gives effort, stays in front of guys, rebounds well, and recovers on defense. He also fits the athletic mold of what Oats’ system needs in a guard. You can improve shooting in an off-season (look at Herb last year to this year).

This is Jerry Meyer's scouting report on 247:

quote:

Has a good physical build for a point guard. Extremely athletic. Explosive leaper who specializes in getting to the rim and finishing. Also has great body control and is a creative and adept finisher. Has a reliable jump shot to keep the defense honest. Sees the court well. Finds the diagonal pass. Can make the high degree of difficulty pass. Has the tools to be a high level perimeter defender and rebounder.

Cool, that's your opinion. He played winning basketball TONIGHT! That's all I'm saying.

I honestly don't know except for maybe nobody had ever seen him truly handle pressure on the ball and quick decisions under duress before and all they saw were him making nice looks on drives in EYBL games (which he is very good at).

His turnovers are generally when he gets in a bad spot or is being pressured up top. Nobody ever saw him in situations like that before (and he was never in them). It's not a thing in EYBL and it never happened in little high school ball. And he was absolutely horrific at it once it started happening here. And it never got even a tiny bit better.

That's all I can think.

And exactly how many players improve as drastically as Herb Jones did? I said it before but I really doubt Holt is on the roster next year.

No season that ends in the NCAA tournament is a failure, but this year has been a huge disappointment. We’ve fluctuated between mediocre to bad for the large majority of the past 3 months. Staff needs serious self reflection and we need home runs from the transfer portal.

I can’t personally grasp how he’s still mocked as a late 1st or early 2nd round guy. I think he’s older than Primo, who showed WAY more his freshman season and wasn’t mocked near as high until after the combine.
