I want guys to understand something...

Gary hasn't showed up period...he was averaging like 6 Points and 6 rebounds down the stretch last year.

We need Gary, Miles, Shack and JQ to play too their potential consistently. Ellis has played really good down the stretch.

If they play anywhere to what they are capable then we win the whole thing easily.

Wow…Pelicans went off in 3rd quarter for a 15 point swing. In position to possibly win 2 in a row against 2 of the better teams in the Western conference (Utah and Denver). Herb actually having an off night though, 1-7.

Keion Brooks and Jabari Smith are both pretty elite mid range shooters, but those teams aren't great simply because they utilize the mid range game imo. Those teams are great because they have great talent, great chemistry and can play solid defense. Tshiebwe, Grady, TyTy, Wheeler, Mintz and Kessler, KD, Flanigan, Wendell, Zep is an excellent well rounded nucleus for both teams.

I wouid be curious to know what our end of game - like last 5 minutes - offensive efficiency is like. I wouid be shocked if it’s top half in the league, and if it is the SEC just isn’t very deep.

I know. I'm just saying having more variety on offense can be helpful.
When we play any team like Auburn or UK that utilizes the entire half court, they are usually harder to guard. They both are also very effective in the low post with Kessler and Oscar, in an area we don't emphasize at all.

For example, in the LSU game, the group of Q, Shack, Keon and JD took 46 shots while Gurley and Bediako took a total of 5 shots. Alot of the time, we're putting a lineup on the floor where the opponent only has to focus on guarding 3 people. Now, if those three light it up then we've got something.

I'd rather guard a team that only shoots lay ups and threes as opposed to a team that uses a traditional low post, mid range, the 3pt and drives to the rim.

Unfortunately for us this season, the only area of emphasis for Oats we are doing well in is free throw shooting.
We don't shoot the 3pt well, we don't finish as well at the rim as we should and we don't play solid defense.

It just seems to me like the games we win, both Quinerly and Shack have solid contributions, both in double figures. If one of them takes the night off or has a bad game, especially when it’s Q, we usually put up an L. And when we don’t play defense, we lose some damn ugly games.

We’re 30 games in and these guys can’t figure out it takes a 100% effort on both ends of the court to win. We don’t have a superstar and we don’t have a go-to guy. It’s got to be a team effort both ways for 40 minutes. And when someone takes the night off, our chances for success dwindle to slim and none.

We don't always utilize the "beat your man off the dribble then jump stop and make a quick pass" to get the defense moving enough.

It's too often: this drive will be a layup or an assist or bust!

Getting to the rim at all costs or throwing a hopeful pass as you fly there isn't always the drive that best breaks down the defense. Especially when the defense knows that's what almost every driver is looking to do.

It's often better to just get the defense scrambling where the next guy, or better next guy still, gets the assist or layup.

When we do that, we get rim shots that aren't a feeding frenzy for shot blockers and in-rhythm threes and the offense works like a charm mainly taking those shots.

I understand about wanting to see guys in a college game first but more often than not guys are ranked where theyre ranked for a reason .. especially mcdonalds all americans. Miller is 6'9, handles ball well , shoots well and plays above the rim. Kid turned down G league and overseas to come here, and is honestly one of the best 5 all around in his class. To be ranked 12th is good but thats too low imo. Bradley and griffen are just high iq kids ,griffen is criminally underrated. Not worried about any of them being a disappointment. Really hope Pringle brings the aggressiveness from juco to major college also .

I agree, but how many of those points are we giving up because of a bad turnover? We had our most reckless lineup of ball handlers (JD, Keon, Rojas, Miles) most of the second half and OT against LSU. JQ was the only reliable handler out there. I don’t care if Shack couldn’t throw it in the ocean that game, at least he’s not a turnover machine.

He can’t do anything if he doesn’t get in the game. I think he played like six minutes Saturday. He’s basically out of the rotation.

I understand why, they still don't have groupings they trust, but the utter chaos of the rotations and substitution patterns this late in the season does not help with consistency.

If I have one criticism of Oats(I think he is a great coach and the FOGs wanting him gone on twitter are fricking stupid.) it’s that he hasn’t really been consistent with lineups this year to allow us to establish a routine/rhythm

At this point Nate is a good coach but not great. Hopefully he will have learned much from this season and can apply to upcoming seasons.

JMO but it's not a good look to keep harping on players not giving their very best effort yet keep sending them out.

He is still learning. He isnt even 50 yet.

I think he is an “A” to “A+” coach in everything but in game decisions and adjustments right now but I still think he is solid in that area and will continue to learn and correct his mistakes

The following may come across as homerism, but maybe this somewhat underwhelming year will actually benefit Oats and Alabama in the long run. Had we bettered last year's results, Oats' name would be on every school's short list. It's quite possible, with his being a little younger, he may have been more likely to leave Tuscaloosa. Perhaps, he can mature and learn all in Tuscaloosa and at the same time more better appreciate Alabama.

Let me also state this:
Had we had a tremendous season, only to have Oats leave for supposed greener pastures, I would have been more upset than having the season we're having now and keeping him.

I'd definitely rather have Oats than not have him moving forward. I like him and think he can improve in the areas of concern. Having more reliable players makes a big difference too.
