Our schedule was CRAZY this year. I hope it's similar next season.

I hope it’s not quite as tough.

Memphis
@Houston
Gonzaga in BHam
Big12 Challenge (away)

3 PK85 games

That leaves 6 games. 1 is @South Alabama. Hopefully 3 or 4 tough Mid-Majors and 2 or 3 buy games at home.

That’s how I would do it

Yes, you need to develop the newcomers but you also need those guys to be battle tested as well.

Btw I'm agreeing with you!

Frustrating loss but you could see it coming in the first half. We were hitting everything but couldn’t extend the lead because we couldn’t get stops. Then once we cooled off, they pulled ahead and eventually away.

The defensive issues really put a cap on this teams ceiling unless we shoot hot the whole game like Gonzaga. I mean if MSU could make an open shot down the stretch, we would’ve lost Wednesday night.

Positives: Gurley. He’s really playing well in the post and I think we need to call his number down there more. Ellis. He finally resembled the alpha dog we all hoped he could be this year. Holt. Thought he helped when he came in and I don’t understand why he doesn’t play more.

Negatives: JD. Thought he might have been turning a corner the last couple of games. Today wasn’t good. Miles and the stupid little slap to the face. Really thought that was a turning point in the 1st half. And lastly Oats. You HAVE to call a timeout when they are making that run in the 1st half and you HAVE to call a timeout before it balloons to 15 in the 2nd half and the game is basically over.

And to all bitching about the officiating, you aren’t getting calls on the road and you sure as hell aren’t getting calls in Rupp arena.
And if we would’ve rebounded better and played better defense, we would’ve won regardless.

Agree about Rupp but that doesn’t make it right. You have to be way better to get a win there. By far biggest problem with college basketball is how refs favor the home team.

Will be glad when this season is over. Tired of this team embarrassing the game.

This team is a 5 or 6 seed right now and is comfortably in the tournament lol

I’m not making excuses, but every fan, every coach, the AD, and Nate Oats himself expected Josh Primo & Nimari Burnett to be on this team. This is a great Top 15 to Top 25 team with a rotation that can get hot in the tournament and make some noise…

PG: Jahvon Quinerly/JD Davison
SG: Jaden Shackelford
SF: Keon Ellis/Darius Miles
PF: Noah Gurley/Juwan Gary
C: Charles Bediako/James Rojas

But, this is a Top 5 team fighting for a #1 seed in March Madness…

PG: Jahvon Quinerly/JD Davison
SG: Nimari Burnett/Jaden Shackelford
SF: Keon Ellis/Darius Miles
PF: Josh Primo/Juwan Gary
C: Charles Bediako/Noah Gurley

And, my best guess for next season, which I believe will be the most talented roster Oats has had…

Gone..
Keon Ellis
Noah Gurley
James Rojas
Keon Ambrose-Hylton
Alex Tchikou
Jusuan Holt

PG: Jahvon Quinerly/JD Davison/Jaden Bradley
SG: Nimari Burnett/Jaden Shackelford/Rylan Griffen
SF: Brandon Miller/Darius Miles
PF: Juwan Gary/Nick Pringle
C: Charles Bediako/Noah Clowney

+ 1 transfer
+ 2 transfers if Shack or JQ leave
+ 3 transfers if they both leave

I don’t think Holt leaves, especially with his playing time ramping up now.

JQ is probably gone, he’s 23 going on 24 I believe. I wouldn’t be shocked it Shack leaves and also wouldn’t be surprised if Gurley was to return.

After that I agree.

Edit: JD is gone as well. He shouldn’t be, but the NBA is all about potential.

I hope Holt sticks around. He's gonna be a good defender and rebounder. If he can shoot it at a decent clip he will be a very good player for us one day.

My guess looks something like this as of now...

Leaving:
JQ (Age)
Shack (Pro or Transfer)
Tchikou (Transfer)
Ambrose (Transfer)
Rojas
Gurley

Might Be Asked To Leave:
Gary (Not A Fit)
Miles (Always In Trouble)

Staying:
JD (Improve Draft Stock W/Next Szn Class)
Holt (Loads Of Potential)
Ellis (Covid Yr.)

Lineup:
JD/Jaden Bradley
Nimari Burnett/Rylan Griffen
Keon Ellis/Jusuan Holt
Brandon Miller/Noah Clowney
Charles Bediako/Nick Pringle

Gary & Miles could be back but as of right now they have work to do.

Does anybody know if Gurley has an extra year?

I don't think Oats asks Gary/Holt/Miles to leave nor do I think they leave. That's a dangerous game to play. Recruits are watching.

He's not going to ask Holt to leave matter of fact he's probably going to beg him to stay. The other two I'm not sure of for reasons I've stated.

Exactly recruits are watching waiting to come aboard.

I think Gary and Miles are 90% coming back because they're fairly established in the rotation when available, but I think Holt probably depends on what other guys do. If, for example, Ellis uses his COVID year and Shack and JD both want to come back he'd have a really, really tough time getting minutes next year. And I don't really think recruits care about that stuff these days. Transferring is just another part of playing college basketball in 2022. We were 1 of only 2 or 3 D1 teams in the entire country who didn't have a player transfer out after last season.

I think we could lose to Shelton St and our NET would only drop to 24. That # hardly ever moves.
