You really could not jam up the paint with last years team.
We normally had four sometimes five on the court that could shoot the three. Herb had to be guarded because he would hit that set shot 3 when his man didnt come out. And all those guys we lost from last year were good defenders. But, I think when he doesnt have the players to run his offense, he needs to be able to adapt a little. I dont think you can recruit high school players and think you will make them better shooters when they get to college. That just doesnt work very often. Wimp was asked how to improve free throw shooting. His answer we "recruit better shooters"

There's a chance Miles and Gary end up being the only returning players who are already decently productive.

One thing watching college ball makes clear is that there's hardly a better chance for a 5* recruit or coveted transfer to perform at a high level than be so inconsistent that they really need a 1st season of getting spot minutes.

I'm hoping all the newcomers will be good but you can't predict they necessarily will.

Team's didn't exactly jam the paint, but teams absolutely decided that they would refuse to help on drivers and make us finish at the rim with contested shots while taking away kick out passes to open 3 pt shooters for basically the entire month of February. And our offense was horrrrrrrrrrid.

Game (Pt Per Poss)
W vs Kentucky (0.97)
L @ Oklahoma (0.87)
W vs LSU (0.99)
L @ Mizzou (0.86)
W @ South Carolina (0.99)
W vs Georgia (1.40)
W vs Vanderbilt (1.11)
L @ Arkansas (0.86)
W @ Miss St (0.90)

New ‘Athletics Competition Arena’ on Alabama trustee meeting agenda

Years of talk about the home of Alabama basketball and gymnastics appear to be headed toward action.

The University of Alabama board of trustees are set to meet Thursday and Friday in Birmingham with a few athletics construction matters on the agenda. First, there’s an item for approving “the final project budget for the Bryant-Denny Stadium renovation and addition.”

A few lines later, there’s a resolution to approve the project scope and budget for the “Athletics Competition Arena.” That would indicate the momentum toward building a new facility over renovating Coleman Coliseum was moving toward reality.

Further details were not immediately available.

The agenda items will be addressed Thursday afternoon as part of the trustees’ physical properties committee. The board will meet in Birmingham on Thursday and Friday.

A few guys in a basketball group im in say Byrne has essentially said it’ll seat 10k to 10.5k. They are all upset about it, but that really wouldn’t hurt my feelings. At most I hope it’ll seat no more than 12.5k and be built with all seats where you feel like you’re right on top of the court. That’s the best part about AU arena.

I'd prefer it seat 11-12K, but if we are going to go 1K one way or the other I'd definitely rather be at 10.5 than 12.5.

People can be upset all they want. Idc. We wouldn’t have to even consider cutting it down if 15K people showed up every single game. Not saying that’s realistic, but some nights we only have 10-11K. Whatever Byrne decides, I’m good with.

I think you want something where a game like Baylor/Kentucky is an extremely difficult and expense ticket, but also something where it's pretty full but also accessible for a family to go see Alabama/Jacksonville State on a Thursday night in early-December.

It seems like 11-12K is probably right around the option that fits those.

But, like I said before, I'd rather it be 500 smaller than 500 bigger.

Either way, it'll be packed almost every night. On our worst nights (Wed game vs South Alabama in November) when the program is in good shape we draw 8-9K. That would be like 80% capacity.

People have been so starved for a new arena that creates a good environment that we could easily become a very, very rowdy atmosphere very quickly. As we know, the true Alabama basketball fans (of which there is a healthy number) are generally pretty rowdy and loyal, and you combine that with 3,000 students or so and make it an intimate setting..........that will be a hostile arena.

Unfortunately that probably means the end of season tickets for a bunch of folks who aren't willing to sell their firstborn.

Yes, unfortunately it probably does. Which is the downside of this, and will be even more frustrating when we see empty seats popping up regularly again in a new arena the same way we do now that belong to the same 150-200 season ticket holders.

Wait a second are they really building this? I don’t want anything built before we get that new Chocolate Fondu Fountain in Bryant-Denny.

11,000 seat Auburn Arena replica. I don’t care if the Barners call us copycats. All the bad voodoo will be left at Coleman

If we're going to draw inspiration from another recently built arena I'd rather copy Ole Miss. I think they seat about 10k, but I like their layout better than Auburn's.
