The shooting slump continues to be baffling during this skid. Yes, the defense has been a bigger factor, but I didn’t expect to play D anywhere near the level we did last year. I did, however, expect the shooting to be as good, if not better.

Especially from Quinerly and Shack. It’s baffling.

During the 7 game skid starting with Memphis, Shack is 15/54 (27.8%) from 3 and JQ is 11/46 (23.9%) from 3.

Combined, they are 26/100 (26%) over this 7 game stretch. These guys are both 35%+ career shooters.

We absolutely cannot win games without these 2 making at least 1/3rd of their 3’s.

We had a stretch in the 2nd half last night where we missed 4-5 threes in a row, and all of them were good looks from JQ, Shack, Miles, and Ellis, our best shooters.

They weren’t wild, contested looks or late in the shot clock. They were in rhythm, catch it square, step in and shoot looks. And we HAVE to take those to be good. We just missed them all.

It's even worse than that. Not only are they not making 3s, they aren't making 2s either. And they are the main volume shooters on our roster. It's a complete disaster.

Since Memphis

JQ - 42/101 (42%)
Shack - 30/91 (33%)
Total - 72/192 (38%)

Again, that's TOTAL FIELD GOALS, not just 3s. That's absolutely abysmal.

If JQ/JD's FG% was thrown into the national team rankings, it would rank #357 out of #358 D1 teams. Only Miss Valley St would worse.

Yeah agreed. I know we are all really frustrated with how inconsistent this team has been, especially in the effort department, which requires no talent to give, just a will to give it.

However, I think if I heard we’d be 11-5 at this point in the season, I’d probably wish we had one less loss, but would be pretty satisfied with that. It’s just WHO we’ve lost to that kills. I hope the send half of the season we can see the improvement we know that we have in us and need to make. This team has the potential to make a serious run in the tourney or just as easily barely get in and get bowed out first round. Lets hope it’s the former.

That shite style won the SEC, SEC tournament, and made the sweet 16 last year with bozos like Herb amirite.

We have said this after like half a dozen games this season. It's a bit naive to think that last night will be any more of a wakeup call than Iona, USA, Memphis, Jax State, Davidson, or Mizzou were. There are no leaders on this team. The upperclassmen who should be just aren't, none of the new faces are ready for thst responsibility, and that's a big reason why our focus and energy level are so inconsistent. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that when you're down 12 with 7 minutes to go you need to start playing with a sense of urgency. Leadership is what gets teams to consistently play with a sense of urgency from the opening tip.
Yeah very fair point. That’s why I noted the lack of leadership on the team in my response. I don’t think it’s naive to think we CAN make those changes, just hopeful. We may not and that wouldn’t be surprising, but I do believe that we can and hope we will.

your shitty posting style never works. Go take that garbage elsewhere.

Shack is 8/24 (33%) the last 4 games.

On TWO point shots.

I’m just still in disbelief JQ had a wide open 3 for the lead and probably the win….and he didn’t shoot it.

LOL wait, so now Oats sucks too?

I thought we just had to run off all of Avery's shitty players so we'd be awesome. Now we need to run off Oats shitty style so we'll be awesome?

It's almost like he's a troll. I still don't understand the reluctance to ban obvious trolls. You can ban dipshits like SnB who only exist to spew bullshite and start stupid arguments where he will continually move the goalposts and beat up on straw men without turning into Tidefans. But then again the a-hole that Chicken gave mod duties to on tRant once told me he hoped I had to watch my children die of cancer, so I'm not particularly surprised.

That's not really surprising though. Shack has always been terrible at the rim because he isn't a leaper and he lacks elite body control. Relying on him to score in the paint was an issue last year too.

My observation also. Who is the leaders on this team? That is why we play to the level of the competition. Honestly, I don't see that attribute on any of our players.

Twitter is on fire about the crowd last night. Apparently a bunch of students were turned away last night and there were a bunch of AU fans all over the Tide Pride section. Not giving an excuse for our subpar play, but I absolutely hate everything about the seating arrangement and home environment in general.

Honestly, Byrne deserves blame for not putting his nuts on the table and fixing that. I don't care how much of his political capital it requires. It's a giant arse issue, the players and coaches know about it and it literally effects the program.

Letting it continue to fester is a massive issue.

I mean I understand students being mad, but they’re only allotted so many seats so when that hits capacity, oh well. It does suck about some auburn fans being close to the court, but the ones in the rafters more than likely bought the seats from our ticketing department when they went on sale to the general public. Not much you can do to prevent that unless you build an arena small enough where there are no general public tickets because the season ticket holders bought them all. I think the Twitter crowd is just trying to blame everything but our team being arse the last month

Agreed, but I'm not sure what can be done about it without a new arena or gutting Coleman and rearranging the layout. Byrne's job is nearly as far from being at risk as Saban's, but he still can't afford to do anything that punishes those people because they're all big money FOG boosters. IMO if there was an Auburn fan in your seat last night, you should lose all your season tickets in every sport you have them in. frick those people. Byrne can't do anything about them though. Can't risk losing the donations.

Last night was disappointing as have the last few weeks been. For me, the issue is the shooting and the focus at the start of games. We all know the defensive issues and I don’t know that those are fixable but if we shoot even halfway decent or God forbid actually shoot it well, we can still beat very good teams-see Gonzaga. This may not be a great shooting team, but it’s a better shooting team than has showed the last few weeks. You have to think the shooting will improve. Also, Oats has to fix the effort/focus at the beginning of games. How do we not play the first half with the same intensity we play the last 7 or 8 minutes of the game? That has also been a constant the last few weeks.
