No. I'm not extremely pessimistic either. No real feeling either way.

I dont know why but i feel like maybe this loss what actually gets them focused. They recognize that’s a bad team they lost to and JQ and shack are the ones who should realize that they’re the leaders of this years team, maybe Keon as well.
They know the magnitude of the state title game tuesday and I think even they realize how dogshit they/the team played defense in yesterdays game and prior games minus a 10 min stretch of the FL game.
The inconsistencies have been there, but I truly do expect a locked in and scrappy fighting team tuesday. I think we change the way we play ball for the rest of the season with what we show and come out with against auburn, and Im excited to see how the boys respond. I hope the crowd gives these boys the cheering they deserve and give auburn hell for 40 straight minutes.

Evan Miya stats worst Alabama Defensive Performances since 2011-12 using Weighted Defensive Efficiency (Points Per Possession weighted by opponents offensive averages)
(1) 2016 vs Kentucky (SECT) (148.9) (L 85-59)
(2) 2014 vs Tennessee (140.9) (L 76-59)
(3) 2015 @ Kentucky (139.39) (L 70-55)
(4) 2018 vs Villanova (NCAAT) (135.2) (L 81-58)
(5) 2021 @ Missouri (134.6) (L 92-86)
(6) 2015 @ Xavier (133.3) (L 97-84)
(7) 2014 @ Florida (130.1) (L 78-69)
So, the 5th worst defensive performance in the last 10 seasons. And I'd argue it was worse than 2015 Kentucky (38-1 national runner-up) or 2018 Villanova (National Champs).
2016 Kentucky - SEC Champs, NCAAT 2R
2014 Tennessee - NCAAT S16
2015 Kentucky - NCAAT National Runner Up
2018 Villanova - NCAAT National Champion
2015 Xavier - NCAAT S16
2014 Florida - SEC Champs, NCAAT Final Four
So all of those other performances were against teams that went to at least the 2nd round and 3 went to the Final Four. It would be difficult to overstate how bad yesterday was from a historical standpoint. It was truly an all-time stinker.

DBPR: Defensive Bayesian Performance Rating reflects the defensive value a player brings to his team when he is on the court. This rating incorporates a player's individual efficiency stats and on-court play-by-play impact, and also accounts for the defensive strength of other teammates on the floor with him, along with the offensive strength of the opponent's players on the floor. I think we beat Auburn at home. I don’t think it fixes our problems or necessarily focuses us, it’s just hard to win on the road in college basketball. I even expect us to maybe a small favorite..-1 or -2.

This team isn’t NIT bound. With wins over Gonzaga, Houston, and Miami and the rest of the schedule, it would take an epic collapse to even be on the bubble.
I mean...losing to that Mizzou team could be the start of a pretty epic collapse.

Man I don’t know. I have Bama basketball PTSD. I’m on the Nate Oats train but god help me I can’t handle another Bama basketball collapse.

Is it just me, or is Oats harder on Miles than anyone else. He will be playing well, makes 1 small mistake and then gets pulled.
I think he's trying to maximize his potential. But Miles' body language as the game goes on gets worse, and then so does his play.

Absolutely agree and I'm sure it's for the reason you noted.
Miles has the ability to defend guys and effect shots without fouling, which is a physical trait that basically none of our other forwards seem to have. He has to play more. His defensive instincts and abilities, when fully engaged, are as good as anybody on the roster.

I think he has potential offensively that no one else on the team has as well. If he can grow wiser on the court, he could play iso wing at an elite level. With his combo of speed, length, and shooting ability, he should be a monster. But right now he is so indecisive he gets lost on drives and doesn't shoot with confidence.

We need to play Holt more. He can play some defense and I think he will eventually get comfortable offensively the more he plays

his lateral movement seems slow to me but I'm no expert.
I do think he needs to play more, we need the bodies.

If anyone needs 2 tickets to the game tomorrow, I’ll sell mine for less than what folks are asking on stubhub.
