4 mil and change with heavy incentives is a perfect spot for Oats at the moment.

No yearly figure is gonna scare off the blue bloods, Kansas is paying Bill Self 10 Million a year, Kentucky is paying Cal 9 million, UNC and Duke would fork out that much for a guy. Izzo makes almost 8.4 million a year. Even Texas would pay over 6 for a coach for sure.

A huge buyout would make them more hesitant. I am interested to see the buyout.

I agree. I hope it's closer to 4.5 but good raise regardless.

Musselman is underpaid at 4 Million.

took that "good news" coming from the BOT on Friday (tomorrow) to relate to the arena — do you think it only applies to a contract?

I always assumed it was the extension. I think they know he is going to be contacted by anyone with an open job in the off season

The only number that should matter to us is the buyout. I couldn’t care less what he makes in salary but I just want a big buyout number that makes him untouchable for the foreseeable future so UA doesn’t have to do this song and dance each year.

Make it a 23 million dollar buyout like Rick Barnes has.

It'll be somewhere between 10 and 15 million probably I would guess.

Buzz Williams buyout is 13 million
Musselmans is 11.4

This is how the buyout was structured on Oats current contract.

Last year it was 12.57 million
This year it's 9.8 million
23-24 - 6.9 million
24-25 - 2.4 million

Tuscaloosa News chiming in a min ago. I wonder if Jon Rothstein is their source

Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats is set to receive a contract extension through the 2028-29 season pending Friday approval by the UA System Board of Trustees, a source confirmed to The Tuscaloosa News.

The annual compensation is expected to be more than $4 million. Under his current contract, which runs through 2027, Oats earns $3.225 million annually. The compensation committee report will be revealed during the meeting at UAB on Friday at 10:45 a.m.

If he leaves during the 2021-22 season he'd owe Alabama roughly $12.57 million. That figure goes down to $9.83 million in 2022-23 before dropping to roughly $6.96 million in 2023-24 and $2.41 million in 2024-25. Oats does not have buyout in either of the two final years on his contract.

That was from the previous raise/extension he got. I'd like the new buyout numbers to be something like this.

23/24 - $18m
24/25 - $16m
25/26 - $14m
26/27 - $12m
27/28 - $10m

He was hired in 2019 at $2.4m a year.

Two years later got a raise in 2021 to $3.2m a year.

Two years later getting another raise in 2023 to ~$4m+ a year.

I'm not a contract buyout expert, but I think those are fairly reasonable. And i'm biased.

Sources: Nate Oats' new contract with Alabama --- which is for six years --- will be worth an average of approximately $5 million dollars annually plus incentives.

Oats is now one of the highest paid coaches in college basketball.

Wow, so that puts him right under Rick Barnes. That's a big move for the program.

Don’t know the original source of this graphic that was tweeted indicating he’d be the 3rd highest paid coach in the SEC

I'd prefer:
23/24 - Newborn
24/25 - Eldest Child
25/26 - Wife
26/27 - Left Testicle
27/28 - Right Testicle
