State also needs to get their shite together after playing their worst game of the season Wednesday night. Not sure if they can though. It's a roster built to play basketball the way it was played 20-25 years ago. Tall, strong, and athletic across the board, with like 2 guys capable of making anything from outside of the paint.

For some reason, after football season they make Hey Coach incredibly hard to find (no varsity app subscription here and I haven’t found a live stream). Coach Oats is on tonight - I’m going to be looking for it.

Was listening to Full Ride earlier today, they had Mike Morgan on and they were asking about Oats and other jobs.

His take was that obviously money talks, but Bama has the resources to keep Oats and he thinks the new arena will be built sooner than later (don’t think he would know for sure though)

He also said that he didn’t get the impression that Oats and his family are keen on moving around every 5 years and that Oats is very happy and content where he is at.

Obviously just one person’s opinion but thought it was interesting

Memphis and Kentucky about to creep into Q1 wins and SDSU is a borderline Q3 win now.

We’re looking good resume wise.

Money shouldn’t be an issue for us keeping Oats. Football dwarfs basketball from a financial perspective for the universities. The NCAA keeps a lot of the basketball tournament money.

Because we are so good at football, we shouldn’t have to worry about a traditional basketball power being able to outbid us for a coach. Our athletics department brings in way more money thanks to football than schools that are basketball blue bloods.

Unless an individual booster from another school finances an insane contract for Oats, we should be able to match any offer he gets.

Tale of the Tape, No. 1 Purdue vs. No. 2 Alabama: All Things CW (SI)

What's the difference between the Boilermakers and Crimson Tide on paper? Both not a lot, and a whole lot.

I think he would leave for Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky and maybe Michigan State, but that’s about it.

But he would have to win a NC or two here before any of those would come calling I would think. Kentucky would be the most likely since they see him in person every year.

It’s crazy how Zack Edey never gets called for fouls. Averaging 1.5/ game while playing 35+ minutes. The other day he played 37 min scored 30 pts had 14or 17 reb And No Fouls! Wow.
Maybe he is just that good.

MSU sounds more reasonable since he and his wife are from that state. IF he goes to the final 4 he will be a hot name and a bunch of those places you mentioned have long time or new coaches. I would be shocked if he left for an SEC school. But this year is his year to win it all as Miller will only be here one year

Oats may like being at Alabama with its strong football tradition because it eases him from the spotlight, which can get hot in a hurry if you lose.

Hes put together two final-four caliber teams in just four years. Right now he probably isn't thinking about the program's ceiling. Unless he and his family don't love Ttown, I'm optimistic that he isn't actively looking to leave but will want a pay raise

Rick Barnes is 7th in CBB at 5.2 Million. Just offer the man something in that neighborhood and see if he takes it

Oats is still learning to some extent, I think even from last year to this year he has gotten a good bit better about when and where to use his timeouts. A couple of years ago he said he doesn't like to use them and he lets his teams play through most things, but in college you need to use them, especially on the road in big-time games, to quiet the crowd/stop runs, regroup ect.

The other top coaches in the SEC he is coaching against have a lot more experience than he does.
The ceiling for Oats as a coach is very high considering what he has done already.

Oats - 8th season as a college coach
Rick Barnes - 36th Season
Calipari - 35th season
Bruce Pearl - 31st season
Musselman - 15th season (counting hc in the NBA and Gleague)

I genuinely believe he is cut from the same cloth as Billy Donovan and has the gumption to want to build his own program. And, the only eventual suitor would be if the right NBA opportunity came.

Oats is relatively young and still newish to CBB, the sky is the limit for him. We are #blessed.
