By no means should we look past them, and I think they are probably our biggest obstacle to the Final Four. But I also think that it's important to note the differences. I would argue that Tennessee is a better and much more proven defensive team than SDSU. And without any debate, Alabama is a far more consistent and better overall team than Duke has been this year.

In the Oklahoma game we proved we can lose to anyone on our worst night. Having said that, I think it would take one of our other worst performances of the season to lose to them on a neutral floor.

Agreed - I've shifted my thinking the last few weeks that I think that outside of the teams that do everything well (Texas, UConn, Houston), the scariest matchup for us of a team that is really good but flawed is a team that has the ability to just go off shooting the ball regardless of how well you play defensively (Miami, Gonzaga).

We have nights where we don't shoot great, but we generally have a high floor offensively because we generate points in so many ways. However, our defense has basically been lock down on anybody who doesn't just consistently make tough jump shots for a long time now (outside of games where the other team rams into our chest 50 times and shoots free throws cough A&M). So, a team that defends at a high level but is just average/above average offensively still feels like a matchup I like a lot (assuming we aren't turning it over 25 times). A team that can go nuclear with nothing but pull up jumpers and put up 80 regardless of the defense effort scares me - because we can have a rough shooting night against any type of defense when we just aren't making open shots.

Just my thoughts. The only teams on our side of the bracket that even remotely fit that description are Creighton and Kansas State. The other side has 5 of them (Miami, Gonzaga + all around great UConn, Houston, Texas).

Fans overlooking a game is one thing, but CNO is definitely not. I think this team is locked in on one game at a time.

Oh, I know. That's what I meant. Some people are acting like we've got a cakewalk to the final four. Rushing out to buy tickets for a final four because they think we've got it in the bag.

SDS is a better version of Maryland, but I have confidence we’ll win if we play decent.

Creighton is a different story. They’re easily one of the most under-seeded teams in the tourny. Probably should have been a 3 or a 4 but they had that weird 6 loss stretch. We would have a tough time with them, but would be favored by 3.5ish

I'm driving up from Birmingham Friday morning. Know about a dozen people who are doing the same so far. It's an easy trip straight up 65.

I highly doubt the team or staff has anyone looking past SDSU.

I stated right from the beginning of my post specifying fans. No one on staff is looking past them.

Edited: haven’t had any coffee this Monday morning, cleaned it up.

Playing Friday gives Miller an extra day to recover.

people are already looking past SDSU

Hopefully our guys aren't.

Ask Purdue if a team of D2 players is worth paying attention to, amirite?

The guard at 6’4 230 lbs might be an issue for our defense.

We do have a height advantage on them so that's one thing in our favor.

Nice. I plan to do that for the elite 8 game if we win Friday.

Sam Diego State is probably even deeper than we are, they have 10 guys that average over 10 minutes a game and no one that averages over 27 minutes a game. Their depth isnt as quality as ours and they dont have a superstar like Miller but we probably arent gonna tire them out and foul trouble doesnt effect them much since they play so many guys.

Princeton over FAU? Interesting

He also has Creighton lower than I would have them.

They don't have a lot of size. If we get one of their bigs in foul trouble they are gonna be hurting. Very similar to Maryland, imo.

Purdue had an insane height advantage over FDU so that doesn't matter. We have to play fundamentally sound basketball. Limit our turnovers, play fundamentally sound defense, hit free throws, and rebound. If we do that we can win.

Looking at tickets, do we have any idea which seating section will be for Bama fans?

They are a lot deeper and more physical than Maryland, much better defense too. SDSU has a top 5 defense, Marylands defense is ranked 34th.

Creighton played a helluva game. If they shoot the ball as well as they did yesterday, they can beat ANYBODY!

Astute analysis and tremendous coaching acumen right here

I kid, I kid. I think overall both teams match up pretty well against the other, but I'll take us in a battle of depth and attrition any day. But, I think it will be a closer game than any of us would like.
