Alabama is 1-8 all time in Sweet 16 games. Time to get this monkey off our back. It’s already been that kind of season.
The more I watch San Diego St the more they impress me. They have some big body dudes with some length. The guard at 6’4 230 lbs might be an issue for our defense.
We’re too good, though. I think we have a great shooting night.

Did anyone else get pumped up when the broadcast mics picked up Bediako yelling "Let's get a stop!!" after he scored and ran down the court to set up on defense?

Loved it. It's good to see Chuck being assertive.

The conversation with Charles at the end of the year needs to be about him coming back one more season and really perfecting his game. He could elevate his value tremendously with another big year.

I don’t think he’s on any draft boards so the only threat to him leaving is through the transfer portal. I don’t really see that happening.

He could easily add another 3-4 points to his points per game average if he worked on his free throws. Other than that he has been spectacular this year and happy he is coming into his own over the last month

Of the teams in the top 20 in defensive efficiency per KenPom:
- 10 are in the Sweet 16
- 4 are not in the Sweet 16 by virtue of being beaten by other teams with top 20 defenses (Kansas, St. Mary's, Duke, VCU)
- Remaining 6 have offensive ratings outside the top 111 (Rutgers, Iowa St., Miss St., Ok. St., Sam Houston St., Seton Hall).
In other words, this season if you had a top 20 defense, you had a 50% shot of making the Sweet 16, regardless of how bad your offense was. If you had a top 20 defense and a top 110 offense, you had a 100% chance of making the Sweet 16, provided you didn't first meet up with and lose to another team in that category in the first or second round.

Wow - that's good stuff.

Not that fans affect how a game will result but I wouldn't say I like seeing a lot of posts on Twitter or even places like BOL where people are already looking past SDSU for Creighton.
SDSU has a top 5 defense via KenPom, they're big and physical, top 10 in the country guarding 3-pointers, and they're one of the oldest remaining teams. Look at the Duke/Tennessee game. That description for SDSU also applies to Tennessee and Tennessee took out Duke who has more talent and athleticism and had a much better offense. I would not sleep on this SDSU squad, they know how to play ball.

The best all around teams in the tournament outside of us are all on the other side of the bracket, IMHO.
- Houston
- UConn
- Texas
The teams on our side are all good teams with some very evident strengths, but they all have very evident weaknesses/non-strengths as well. SDSU and Creighton are both solid teams that can beat us if we turn the ball over and have a bad shooting night, but those 3 teams could beat us even if we play a pretty decent game.

They're a good team. It'll be a war. We'll have to be strong with the ball and make some shots.
We're gonna wear their arse out when they have the ball, though.

I hope a good contingent of Bama fans show up for the game Friday. It’d be nice to have a solid atmosphere for them. I don’t expect there to be many SDSU fans but I could obviously be wrong.

I highly doubt the team or staff has anyone looking past SDSU.

Bediako's progression from the Kentucky game til now has been great so witness. His in season growth has been vital for this run we are on. Hopefully they all keep getting better as each game goes by. One game at a time.

You'll have way more "root for the underdog" fans , and obviously the fans of Princeton and Creighton will be rooting against us.

I would hope/expect there to be. It's a very reasonable drive from the biggest basketball portions of Alabama fans in the state (Birmingham north to the Tennessee line) and it's a great team with a very real shot at doing something special. I'm flying in early Friday morning. Already got the jitters.
I expect there will be a bunch of Creighton fans there. They have a pretty big basketball fanbase, especially for a private school. I just don't have any knowledge at all about SDSU and their school/alumni.

This^
People do not need to overlook them. They are very solid. They play very good on ball defense. Getting into the lane won't be as easy. We do have a height advantage that we might be able to exploit and hopefully we will shoot well after the rest. Technically, we are the better team and should win but we've seen how that can go this tournament.

Fans overlooking a game is one thing, but CNO is definitely not. I think this team is locked in on one game at a time.

Yep.
A little over a 5 hour drive from Birmingham to Louisville.

By no means should we look past them, and I think they are probably our biggest obstacle to the Final Four. But I also think that it's important to note the differences. I would argue that Tennessee is a better and much more proven defensive team than SDSU. And without any debate, Alabama is a far more consistent and better overall team than Duke has been this year.
In the Oklahoma game we proved we can lose to anyone on our worst night. Having said that, I think it would take one of our other worst performances of the season to lose to them on a neutral floor.
