I’m noticing a disturbing trend, both in men and women’s hoops

10 point game with 10 seconds to go

There were three fouls, two by Vandy and one by Alabama, within those 10 seconds.

Quit fouling and let the damn game end, especially if you’re the one with the lead.

I guess that’s my old man rant of the day.

Another Blake Byler post

Really good question. Here’s a few guys’ jumps from year 1 to year 2 under Oats.

Mark Sears - 12.5 -> 20.1 PPG
Herb Jones - 7.9 -> 11.2 PPG
Keon Ellis - 5.5 -> 12.1 PPG
Rylan Griffen - 5.9 -> 10.6 PPG

Every player and his development is different, but there’s definitely been flourishing from guys who play multiple years in the system

Let's not go crazy. Scoot has scored 30+ points multiple times this year too. Whoever wrote that stat is a moron.

No way that's right, Henderson has scored over 500 points this season. Miller’s no question having the better season between the two players though.

So I came across this article in The New Yorker about Nikola Jokovic and his upbringing and saw this tidbit:

quote:

The piece was titled “How We Play Basketball in Serbia,” and Serbians do, in fact, have a distinct approach to the game. Aleksandar Nikolic, who coached Yugoslavia’s national team in the nineteen-fifties and sixties, introduced a developmental philosophy: all players, no matter their size, should learn to play each position. “When I started playing basketball, I was tall, and I knew down the road I’d play forward or center,” the Serbian Hall of Famer Vlade Divac, who was on the Lakers and the Sacramento Kings, told me. “But, playing youth basketball, the coach made me play guard and handle the ball.”

Is this common in American youth bball? This approach reminds me of "Total Football" which the Dutch used on their way to becoming a power in soccer.

I'd take that ^^^^

Anyone been to the SEC Tourney in Nashville? Any tips for tix/places to stay/things to do, anything. I've been long ago in Bham but haven't been in forever, looking forward to it.

We went last year. It’s not a cheap place to visit. We decided to stay within walking distance from Bridgestone arena (about a mile away). We lucked up on the weather so we walked to and from the arena. It’s right on Broadway so there’s no shortage of restaurants and bars to visit - although it’s very touristy. We didn’t plan ahead for it, but would have loved to do the grand ole opry which is a few blocks away from the arena. I need to see if the Bluebird Cafe is still going - it was a great spot for live music (but a drive from Broadway as I recall). We just did the sessions with Bama and sold the others (but you could stay almost all day watching basketball). No booze sold in the arena (at least last year) because it was an SEC event- if that’s important to note.

I have been twice. Stayed at Gaylord both times because I love a good tourist trap. The truth is though, I had to entertain two daughters and a wife and that place kept them busy. There are plenty of things for them to spend money on and there are plenty of places to eat, drink, etc around there and around Bridgestone. Nashville is expensive, my first experience we were promptly eliminated by UK on Friday, but I kind of anticipated that at the time so it was more of a vacation plan than expecting a long weekend of basketball. Sold my passes to UK fans and they were promptly eliminated the next day. So that seemed fair.
