Stroud has a mighty high opinion of Bama.

His head coach is one of us and they have a great relationship, too. Plus, he's not old enough to remember CFB before Saban.

The very first thing he emphasized when asked what he expects of the qb.

Yep and he danced around a bit about Jalen and his leadership but also alluded to production as well… going to be interesting … thought he handled it well

Yes, that is different. Downs (any freshman)came in committed to what we thought was the team and didn’t transfer. He was a freshman dynamo and I was excited to see him. However, I actually did have some sympathy for Kristian Story when it came out that Downs was the guy and Keys was brought in and took over, especially since Story had what appeared to be promising A-Day and had stayed in the process.

I’m not saying I haven’t enjoyed transfers like Keyes, Jamo and Toot Toot. I’m just empathetic to those guys waiting for their opportunity.

I think the younger staff may give these guys a nice change of pace.

This is an interesting hire. This guy is into really cutting edge stuff:

quote:

The 2022-23 athletic season at Samford University has been historic for many of the school’s teams. In the fall of 2022, the football team, soccer team and volleyball team were all named Southern Conference champions, making Samford the only NCAA Division I school in the country to win conference championships in all three sports. This spring, the men’s basketball team was named the regular season champion for the Southern Conference. A major factor for the teams’ success is due to Project SAMson, which brings the latest technology, data analysis and sports medicine practices together in one place to enhance the training regimen of all Samford student-athletes across 17 NCAA Division I programs.

quote:

Launched in 2021, Project SAMson is a combined initiative by Samford, its athletic programs, Andrews Sports Medicine, American Sports Medicine Institute, Brock School of Business, the College of Health Sciences and the Center for Sports Analytics to create a new approach to sports performance. The goal of the initiative is to enhance athletic performance through improved strength and conditioning training, reduced injury risk, advanced injury prediction and treatment, and data-driven return to play protocols. Athletes wear wearable technology that tracks a wide array of performance metrics. The data is then analyzed by Samford students in Brock School of Business and the Center for Sports Analytics. Students from various areas within the College of Health Sciences then work with coaches and athletic trainers to develop unique training regiments and nutrition plans for each athlete.

quote:

“We have been able to look at the data and implement it around what we needed. We eliminated the guessing game and started being specific with our training methods every single day in order to match what the guys needed on the field,” said Zach Mathers, assistant athletic director for sports performance and Project SAMson.

I defended the video of Bama guys doing hops, skips, jumps, etc, indoors the other day. Got roasted. Track and field athletes have done this for years. I understand that track speed and performance don’t always translate to the football field, but training the human body for optimal performance is a universal science. Then you make adaptations for different sports and positions, be it power, speed, agility, endurance or any combination.

Many old school concepts are correct and timeless, but new tech helps us measure things better.

I was using that training / warm-up drill long before most of the posters on this board were alive (late 1960's). My cousin was a member of the US Olympic track team. He had the longest triple jump in the word at the time. He was also my coach for the triple jump and the decathalon.

That "drill" strengthens leg explosion and trains rebound strength/explosiveness.

They have been foaming at the mouth since they made up their mind that the transition from Saban to DeBoer was going to be a disaster. Now that we look to be in good shape they are reaching extra hard.

I just hope our guys can get quicker and faster. I got so tired of seeing our O line so fat, slow and looking out of shape AND getting whipped way, way too often.

I’m 61 and have never been to an A-Day. Granted I worked all over the country most of my adult life during spring and fall. I told my wife to mark it on the calendar because we are going this year. Just didn’t know the time. Thanks!

Malachi is the first Bama player to opt-in to appear in the new EA Sports college football game:

Players have until April 30 to opt in in order to be on the official rosters at release and each player who opts in will receive $600 and a copy of the game.

this is actual nil. Players being paid for the use of their names and likeness in a product

Although if I were the players I'd rather have a share of profits rather than take $600 upfront. 5% of profits split between the participating athletes or something like that. I bet this is going to sell well

Can't wait to see his ratings (especially for speed). I'm going to be throwing bombs all day to Ryan Williams (if he opts in)

This is a Saban type hire. One where people just scratch their head and go "ok coach, this one is interesting."

This is a cutting edge type hire.

I love that Debo isn't afraid to go against the grain and making his own way. He isn't just inheriting "the process," he's making every attempt to take the process to new levels.
