JMO, I think the offensive line and receivers attitude about Milroe not starting had a lot to do with QB play. Looking at the film, I don't think the lineman and receivers were even playing at 70% effort. Lot of "look out" blocks and drops.

Most of his passes weren't even close to catchable. And Ty was the one who got sacked 5 times not Buchner. The narrative that the team was tanking purposefully for Milroe is ridiculous. The o-line just sucked at the beginning of the season. Honestly they weren't that much better towards the end either.

There wasn't some ultra-talented savior QB riding the bench last season due to Saban or the team playing favorites. Jalen started because he gave us the best opportunity to win football games. That's not saying he's a great QB or a bad QB, just that he was the best option we had at that time. Maybe that has changed over the course of the off-season and maybe it hasn't. We'll see.

Respect your opinion, You are right, the OL was terrible along with Burton. Sometimes passes are not close to being complete, because receivers don't put forth the effort to run routes.

Dont forget this was the group of players who made the GOAT give up coaching. For me the 2023 team will always be a group of selfish assholes.

One thing I noticed in that South Florida game that to me speaks volumes, I noticed a couple of times when Simpson was sacked, none of the O line helped him up. I know that’s kind of minor and Simpson is a big boy who can pick himself up BUT traditionally, you help your QB up.

There was an astonishing amount of half hearted effort by most of the offense. I thought the defense played hard and pretty well. Maybe it was me but it seemed that way.

You serious? Guys like Milroe and Arnold who clearly loved Bama and bought into the process (along with plenty of other guys that stuck around post-Saban) definitely didn't "make the GOAT" give up anything. The man is in his 70s and earned every minute of his retirement.

And a lot of those "selfish assholes" are still on the team, so I guess you're not going to like the 2024 version of Alabama either.

The ones who left, the ones who were focused on themselves and their brand rather than team goals, were the tip of the spear and likely a minority. However, to suggest they didn't have anything to do with his retirement is nonsensical. The man could see the beast that was coming and chose to retire at the perfect time (for him.). But those dudes definitely had something to do with it

wtf? Our dudes fought hard and played their asses off last season, and accomplished much more than most of this board predicted. Saban clearly had a lot of love and affection for players like Arnold, and Milroe. I don't understand this bitter resentment towards our players and team for no real reason.

They won the SEC and were basically one stop on 4th and short late from going to the national title game and probably winning it.

this board in September: "this team sucks, we won't win jack-shite, Saban is washed up, season is over"

now, after winning the SEC and making the playoffs in 2023: "the 2023 team was a bunch of selfish assholes who made Saban quit"

Its a fact man. Not every player was an a-hole. But the bad apples spoiled the bunch. Saban had enough of that shite and retired. If it was a different group of attitudes last year, he would still be coaching.

I think that the over-arching reason was NIL and transfer portal though. The players asking for NIL money and threatening to transfer are the products of what college sports have become, and every team deals with it now. I think Saban retired because the current system is breeding these kind of attitudes, and he just isn't about that, at all. And he also stated that he was tired of having to hire new assistants and coordinators every off season.
