I’ll tell you, some departments at UA would like to pay more for students with particular skills but always get blocked by HR because other departments pitch a fit. As if a student engineering position applicant was in the same job pool as housing looking for an after hours desk assistant.

The wages for students in valuable positions are kept artificially low. I’d gladly pay 20/hr or even more for a student that knows their way around certain tech stacks but that’s got a snowball’s chance in hell of happening.

A lot of academia is predicated on exploiting cheap labor one way or another. The fight to not pay athletes bringing in tens of millions to the university was mostly about their ideological commitment to not pay fair wages for student work outside the classroom. I’m sure ADs could not have cared less really.

I saw Josh Pate said LSU has a better QB room than we do, all things considered.

What the hell is he thinking? I cant remember 4 guys we liked better than this current group. That has got to be one of our deepest positions.

Truth be told, I like Garrett Nussmeier. He's got all the qualities to be a great college quarterback. As long as they get good play from their WRs, I imagine he'll be a real threat to win conference OPotY.

I can’t stand Josh Pate. He’s a message board troll with media credentials.

So he is saying Nussmeir is better than Milroe and Simpson?
I like Nussmeir , think he will do well this year but he is not a lot better than our two.

He’s on par with Dylan Lonergan. Pate is a major league tool. Rumor has it, he was allegedly the person who was behind the jawa3hc epic troll during the Cam Newton saga.

He is very similar to Ty Simpson in my opinion. Both have fathers that coach at a very high level. Same build, dual threat, throw first, spread it around, fiery guy.

But we also have Jalen Milroe and at the college level its proven he can score a lot of TDs.

I like Nuss a lot but I have no idea who the rest of the QBs are. I think he’s better than Jalen but Jalen has a much higher ceiling. Hopefully Jalen can get close to it this year. I also think Ty and Dylan have the potential to be as good if not better than Nuss.

I think Nuss will throw a lot of pics. He has a strong arm and no conscience. Sometimes it works and sometimes it gets you beat.

I think he and Dylan have a Brett Favre mentality and I’m a fan of that amount of confidence. I just hope they don’t send unsolicited dick pics.

You cant be serious. We had 3 current NFL starting QBs in the same room that all won titles at Bama.

Tua - Mac - Hurts

All we got now is a couple of fellas with zero playoff wins much less titles.

Thats 3, not 4. And at the time nobody thought Mac Jones would become Mac Jones. The 4th QB that year was Braxton Barker. Currently most fans feel better about Lonergan and Mack than they felt about Mac and Braxton in 2018.

Fair enough but the talent disproportion of those 3 from 2017 would make a walkon as the 4th still a more talented QB room than the 4 today, imo.

On a side note, that 2017 roster produced 47 NFL players. Pretty incredible

The 2018 top 3 QBs all were drafted in the first round too. I don’t think Milroe is a first round QB right now. Who could know about the rest at this time.

Jalen Hurts was drafted in the second round.

I didnt think Anthony Richardson would go in the first round either. But teams really reach for QBs now.

Because QBs like Mahomes and Brady have shown what THAT guy can do for you.

There’s an obsession with finding the next GOAT.

Former Alabama standout and current Houston Texans wide receiver John Metchie III was named the recipient of the PFWA's George Halas Award on Tuesday.

The Halas Award is given to an NFL player, coach or staff member who overcomes the most adversity to succeed. It is worth noting that Crimson Tide product and Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was one of two runner-ups for this tremendous honor.

After being selected with the No. 44 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Metchie hoped to make an immediate impact on the Texans, despite tearing his ACL in the SEC Championship game a few months before.

However, on July 24 of that same year, Metchie was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, sidelining him for his entire rookie campaign. Even though this form of leukemia is the most curable, it was unknown at the time if the former Alabama standout would ever see the field on Sundays.

Nevertheless, Metchie relentlessly worked his way back to the gridiron and was able to play snaps in 16 games this past season.

On Aug. 21, 2023, just a couple of weeks before the regular season, he reflected on his journey back to football, but revealed it wasn't the most important thing in his life.

"Although it's fun and it's what I dreamt of as a kid, there's a lot of bigger things in life and there are a lot of people facing real battles every day and have really bad days," Metchie said. "I guess perspective is the thing I walked away with."

Metchie explained that his darkest times during the cancer journey were when he made that realization.

"On days where it is hard or seems like bad days, I remember quite easily that there are a lot of bigger things in life than this game that we get to play for a living," Metchie said.

Houston is among the most populated destinations in the league for former Alabama standouts, as Metchie, edge rusher and 2023 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Will Anderson Jr., linebackers Christian Harris and Henry To'oTo'o and even head coach DeMeco Ryans spent Saturdays in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

These Bama connections were pivotal in Houston's massive turnaround, as the Texans went from 3-13-1 in 2022 to 10-7 and a Divisional Round appearance this past season. The organization has high expectations this upcoming season.
