And a much worse recruiter.

Kiffin's recruiting hasn't been impressive. Ole Miss' recruiting class in Matt Luke's last year was ranked at 22. Kiffin has had them at 34, 17, 27, 23, 20.

Is Kiffen the best coach available? Or at least better than DeBoer? I don't think so....the PTB didn't think so. I thinking Nick didn't think so so.. Why worry about him. Short term optics are bad but having the better coach is the right move long term. Building a program will outweigh buying it..it just sucks hearing only negative news. I still think 9-10 wins is the real number for 23.

Ok. Lets say Downs didn’t leave for money. What does Kiffin offer that DeBoer doesn’t. Did Lane become a DB guru all of the sudden?

A defensive coaching staff that was from the Saban tree.

Ah yes... Trying to hire people from the Saban tree like we tried to find coaches from the bear tree for years and years with very little success... How did that work out? I'd rather hire a proven winner, which we have done.

Oh yeah, let's hire a sexual harassment scandal in training, one who never met a 4th down attempt he didn't like, just so we can keep a 17 year old who's never played a down

Not making judgement on DeBoer either way at this point, but Kiffin was never the guy.

Simmer down...No one said "settling". I think that's the floor. Other schools have actually been through this. As Bad as LSUs defense was last year... They won that many and I still think Bama will be better than that mark. Bama will get some players in and HS kids will see what's going on in the fall. But there will be some initial regression. It's a tough schedule next year

So you don't want a guy that just proves he can win in the SEC and took a perrenial mid tier sec team to it's first ever 11 wins?

I don’t think these people ever seriously contemplated that at some point Saban would not be our coach anymore, and his way of doing things would of necessity go away. It’s like they are having mental breakdowns over it. And the height of arrogance and silliness is thinking he OWED them some kind of seamless transition.

Mike Leach has a better chance of ever being Alabama’s coach than Lane Kiffin, regardless of how many silly fans get on message boards demanding it. And Leach is dead.

how does losing sayin affect our wins in 23? He was not going to be the starter, backup QB at best. Might as well have the Mack kid as QB. He's got a year of coaching under his belt

Downs would’ve stayed.

Uga is paying almost $1m more. Was Kiffin going to donate to that?

Downs left for $$$. End of story.

Of course we did. We just didn’t think the next guy should tear it all down to the studs.

Why? It was still working. Why did his way need to go away?

Because he could’ve helped keep the freshman class together. Think about it. If this happened when Tua came in do you think we keep Jeudy, Ruggs and Smitty?

I'd rather have a guy that took a bunch or 3/4* players to the natty without the baggage of Kiffin.

Maybe DeBoer doesn't need 5* players to win. What did they say about Coach Bryant: he could beat you with his'n, then beat his'n with yours.
Is DeBoer Coach Bryant? No. Could Coach Bryant really have beaten his team with another team's players? Probably. Belichik NEVER had the best skill players on offense. He won a bunch of games with the 199th pick in the draft, though. Maybe it was luck that he drafted Brady. Maybe it was luck that Bledsoe got hurt opening the way for Brady to play. But the next 17 years and 6 rings weren't luck.

Kiffin has yet to win a big game at Ole Miss where the program controls its own destiny.

You don’t hire a coach and coaching staff based on one recruit or recruiting class.

All y’all MRers need to shut up. DeBoer needs to be given a chance to succeed or fail before you call for his head.

This fan base is insane.

All of that is highly speculative.

And, again, entering the portal doesn't necessarily mean lost. Bama will field a good team. It's an impressive staff. How they move forward in portal recruiting and future recruiting will be key.

The reports of the program death are highly exaggerated
