Thinking of cutting the cord and was wondering what yall thought of YouTube TV?

What are some pros and cons?

I signed up for the free trial and so far I don't like the no recall feature as well as the channel switch lag.

Pros: IMO, best TV service out there
Cons: it's $72/ month.

Some may say that's not a con, but for someone like myself that doesn't watch anything more than a few sporting events, it's high. But, the wife uses it.

Pro tip: you can pause your subscription, say over the summer months, and then pick right back in the fall.

You just buy through playstore. Kill it after basketball season and fire it back up before kickoff

No phone calls. No b.s. go into your subscriptions and turn it back on. Takes 2 seconds

Cons:

Every now and then there will be a program marked “not for streaming” and thus unavailable.
No “back” button as you said and no channel numbers so no quick jumping.

The lag is dependent on your connection and streaming device. For me, at home it’s usually about the same as when I had DirectTV satellite. At the fire station (300mb fiber) it’s virtually instant, which leads to

Pros:
Your TV goes wherever you have data. I work at a FD. If someone else has TV control, it’s just pop out the laptop or iPad, throw on the headphones, and I’m watching my home TV

Unlimited DVR space. Record as much as you want. My wife loves old movies so she flags them to record weeks in advance without worries about running out of space

Good channel selection. Pretty much everything you get on cable except A&E.

No cords. Want to put the TV on the other side of the room, just move it.

IMO, it’s the best cable replacement out there.

Or cancel at any time and renew when football season picks back up - which is what I do.

You need good internet - but Youtube TV is the best

The multi view option has totally changed how I watch sports. It’s awesome for football and basketball.

I wish I had channel numbers and a last station button. But you get used to it I guess.

Pros: Has you covered for college sports. Can watch every Bama football and basketball game and basically every baseball game-it has SEC network which allows you to login to ESPN for all SECN+ games.

Cons-no channel numbers and kind of sucks for MLB-no MLB network or Bally’s

One more thing to add - you can customize your guide to group your favorite channels together which somewhat mitigates the lack of channel numbers and a back button.

Pro: Pricy, but no long-term commitment. Decouples internet from content, so you don't get held prisoner in some deal from your ISP.

Con: Not even really a con because you don't get this on your cable box BUT the quad box function for live sports doesn't allow you to build your own...you just get a selection of prebuilts.

so, you can't flip back and forth? say I am watching something on ABC and they go to break, can I flip over to ESPN and watch and the flip back to ABC or FOx Or the CBS game?

You can do that...I'm talking about their quadbox options that show 4 games at once. You can't build your own custom set of streams for a quadbox, they only provide prebuilt quadbox options.

Like I said, it is something you can't get from a cable box anyway so it is hardly a major con. More or less it is "why did you release this half-baked feature?" complaint.

You can flip between channels, but it is a stupid process of going back to the main menu, scrolling to the other game and the hesitation of loading the new game. If you are spoiled to cable and the last-channel button, it will take some getting used to

If you have a Roku remote you can just hit the down button twice and the last 10 or so channels you watched will be there and just move over to the channel you want to flip to

I do that with DISH - pause after football
but its getting bloody expensive about 120 a month

The reason I havent cut it is becos I have all the bama football recorded since 2008
Maybe its time to give it up

I had lot of issues watching amazon prime NFL game with streaming. Is that also issue with youtube?

I am out of country now and am having issues getting DISH stream to work and have given up on that.

The quadbox has been awesome this year. I thought I read where it was in the works to be able to customize which games you can add to your multiview. Has anyone else seen that option coming in the future?

Is Amazon streaming 4K? Your internet might not be strong enough. Youtube has a 4K option, but it cost about 10 bucks more per month. I don't have any lag issues with my youtubetv. But I do have fiber internet, so I don't know about others.

I had U-Verse. When it jumped to 180 per month, I shut it off. My youtube is about 72 per month and with the ability to shut it off without a contract, it really is a great option

Lol I believe I am. Thanks for all of the information.

I have dish and like someone said it just keeps going up and up. YouTube seems just as convenient with the ability to take it anywhere.

Thanks again

Yea the cancellation is so easy. Other services like Spectrum or DirectTV you have to wait on hold for 45 minutes to cancel and the CSR is makes it so difficult.
