There is a reason Alabama brought in
Portal QB the last two years.

A big problem with “or he is gone” is the buyout byrne was duped into. This ain’t a program where 70mm is found in couch cushions.

The buck stops with him. He trotted Milroe back on the field knowing full well he did not give us the best chance to win today.

So why did Saban not cut his arse?

He’s not on the hot seat yet next year will tell the tale on CKD

The difference is if Saban was coaching this year, we’d loss at least one less game and would’ve made the playoffs.

Why cut a QB that goes 11-2 as a starter, 9-0 against SEC teams, wins a SEC Championship, finishes in the top 10 of the Heisman voting and makes the playoffs?

Answer, you don't.

Saban also knows how to manage Milroe’s fragile mental.

KDB doesn't manage players or the game. We just seem rudderless

IMO Saban/Rees protected Milroe with the play calling much more so than CKD. Seems like Kalen gave JM much more leash in what he was allowed to do, hence why the highs were very high and the lows were very low (including a shite ton more turnovers).

I don’t know, but I seem to remember he retired almost a year ago and we have since hired a new head coach who has been employed as such since before the Spring.

So whatever Saban did in 2023 is irrelevant in 2024.

It’s not really the, “Gotcha!” you inexplicably seem to think it is.

I didn’t mean it as a gotcha, the poster just said Saban “retired rather than coach him one more year” and I questioned that. Could Saban not have stayed if he’d wanted to and advised Milroe to move on?

100%
First of all, Tommy Reese's offense was built on 2 wide sets, packing it in, and running the ball.
His offense was too complicated for Milroe, so Saban had him design a "Milroe offense" after the USF game.

It took Milroe over the course of the season to master this Simple Jack running offense designed just for him.

But don't forget that almost all of our success last year was due to our defense. They were extremely good.

This year, CKD is a passing guy. He likes 4 and 5 wide sets and shotgun every snap. He tried to dumb it down as much as possible, but ultimately Milroe absolutely cannot handle a pass-first offense.

You can't expect CKD to build an entirely new scheme and offense to cater to Milroe. That would be like expecting Saban to run a zone defense because the personnel likes zone.
Never gonna happen.

But what you can do, is expect CKD to recognize Milroe's inadequacies as a passer, his mental deficiencies, and choose to go with a different QB that suits his offense better.

That should have happened this season, but at some point DeBoer said frick this season. We'll roll with Milroe as to not rock the boat too much, and start fresh next year. He thought he could probably win enough games to get away with it, but today's loss is shifting the blame off of Milroe and onto him.

He fricked up, and deserves criticism. He'll have a shot to redeem himself next year, but this year was a fricking disaster, and it ultimately falls on him.

No it isn't. You're being a reactionary idiot. He's here through the end of his contract, period, because we can't buy it out.

Might as well calm down and suck it up. It's a long ride.

Even then, he never actually mastered it. On his final play in that offense, the last play of the Rose Bowl, he was supposed to throw it to Roydell Williams. This is extremely evident from Williams' reaction on the play, throwing up his hands in surprise and frustration, much like Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard on multiple occasions today. I think it's pretty obvious that most of the good moments in his career were just defensive busts or luck with improvisation.

But he was an SEC championship quarterback LOL.

The reality is that on a lot of his high points in 2023, like the Iron Bowl, the coaches were just along for the ride.

He is not guaranteed to be here though the end of contract. The buyout is not a fixed amount.
He won’t be fired for performance this off season, and likely won’t be after next season.
But the state of the program is not great right now, very concerning issues have sprung through the year and haven’t been addressed to date.

You mean whiffing on every single quarterback that signed with the program since December 2019?

Well, he did bring in one guy who's going to be great for OSU in a year or two. So there's that, at least.
