Most of us have already heard how Battle fricked up negotiating an extension on the Nike contract and got us a deal paying us $12 million less than market rates per year. Why can't we tell Nike to get back to the negotiations and rework the contract into a fairer deal? I would tell them that Alabama is not happy at ALL with the stunt they pulled with our supposed business shark former AD and they'd better come back to the table willing to give a fairer deal. They might have us locked into a contract right now, but the second that contract was up, I'd be on the phone to Under Armor or someone else willing to change brands for the way this was handled. They can renegotiate and pay fair market value, or kiss the Alabama deal goodbye the minute it expires. Thoughts?

How much longer are we stuck with it? Politically, I'm not a fan of Nike but I'm not inclined to blame them for our incompetence.

We should cite elder abuse as a way to void the contract.

Honestly, it really is an awful contract. We missed out on a boatload of money for no reason whatsoever. Battle should be absolutely ashamed.

That might even be underselling it some. Right this minute, we'd be in the hottest bidding war ever for a college endorsement deal.

The true travesty is that once this deal is up, we will NEVER be in this strong a negotiating position again.

Yep, Evolved Simian nailed it. We were in a position of strength more than we ever will be again. We are THE shite in college football right now. You either love us or you hate us, but we make you feel something. And Battle pissed that away. What a fricking idiot he was. I have a really hard time finding positives from his tenure in the AD chair. The best thing he did while he was AD was to never forget these 3 words: " Yes, Coach Saban."

The travesty is we left an estimated $70-$100 million on the table without even getting a competing bid. That would’ve come in handy with the new facilities plans.

I don't even understand it. Why extend a contract that had so many years remaining, and had already been surpassed by many other schools' deals?

We can ask them to revise it. Clubs overseas do this all the time.

Chelsea FC buyout Adidas

Chelsea FC bought out their Adidas contract then went and signed a near market topping Nike contract. It can be done

Agreed, It can be done, but supposedly Nike has excellent lawyers writing their contracts and make them as close to bullet proof as possible.

I agree, I don't care what it takes, I would look into changing it, any way possible. We will probably never have this much negotiating power again.

Honestly they could probably use the Kapernick thing if they wanted to as an escape. Claiming that the damage caused by that campaign caused irreparable damage to Nike as a partner, but doubt Alabama wants to get into that mix.

Adidas had the Miami jerseys made out of plastic found in the ocean.

If we had Adidas, they'd probably make jerseys for us out of plastic from ol meth needles.

Just tell them straight up, if they don’t renegotiate, we never sign with them again. I don’t want to be with them anymore anyway.

You'd probably have to bring some pretty strong numbers to make that claim. Also risk pissing off your own recruits, players, and fans.
